As the local host committee prepares for thousands of guests to arrive for General Conference, the quadrennial meeting of the United Methodist Church, they are aware that many people have not traveled to this part of the world before and will not have much time or funds to sightsee. So we want to bring the Northwest to our guests with an art exhibit that shares our view of the Northwest.

image001Local artists, photographers, and everyday people are invited to share a favorite piece of art that depicts the Northwest as they know and love it. These will be displayed in the lobby of the Oregon Convention Center during part of the General Conference. The display is primarily for hanging art, but a few 3D pieces can be accommodated. Art should be matted or framed and ready for hanging. Those submitting art should also be aware that the Oregon Convention Center is public space. Although efforts will be made to keep items secure, priceless items should not be submitted.

This is not a juried event, but to help organize the display, and make sure there arenā€™t 20 pictures of Multnomah Falls, artists are invited to send a digital photo of the item they would like to share to Rev. Karen Nelson atĀ pastorkaren@gknelson.netĀ (please put GC Art in the subject line). Selected items can be brought or mailed to the Oregon-Idaho Conference office in Portland by May 6. They will be available for pick-up at General Conference on May 20 or at the Conference office after May 25.
