Roots and Wings – “Love Thy Neighbor”

Lunch Included

Our theme this year is LOVE THY NEIGHBOR. The Greater Northwest Area’s INNOVATION AND VITALITY TEAM will be leading us throughout the day, in worship, plenary session, conversations and workshops revolving around the three key practices that we believe are present in every vital congregation. These practices are namely, INCLUSION, INNOVATION and MULTIPLICATION.

We have picked the theme, LOVE THY NEIGHBOR to celebrate what God is already doing in our faith communities in the ways we are loving and engaging our neighbors as well as to spark further our imagination towards what is still possible about God’s trans-formative work in our neighborhoods. To this end, four workshops will be offered, namely: Faith-based Community Organizing, Asset Based Community Development, Intercultural Competency, and Intentional Multiplication.

The Early-bird registration is $20 per person until March 15 and $30 per person thereafter. ($30 at the door) There are scholarships available for those who cannot otherwise afford to attend. To request a scholarship, please contact Hollie, hswanson@pnwumc.org or (206) 870-6814.

Childcare Available, be sure to fill out information on your registration!

Stories of the Pastorhood – Puget Sound Clergy Day Apart

All clergy under appointment in the new Puget Sound Missional District are invited to a unique gathering together on Wednesday, January 23. This day will be full of story telling, celebration, collaboration, truth telling and deep listening to each other. We’ll reflect on our generational differences and similarities. We’ll explore the idea that we are a pastorhood together. This day will not necessarily be about learning new content. Our goal is that we’ll emerge more connected to each other with a deeper sense of trust and friendship. We believe in those kinds of relationships, the Spirit gets more room to work in and through us!

Charge Conference Paperwork Due

Please submit your church’s Charge Conference paperwork by end of business today.

There are 4 forms required for all churches:

  • 2017 Officer List
  • Pastoral Support Worksheet
  • Financial Exam
  • Accessibility Audit

These are the 4 forms the District Service Center is tracking for credit in the drawing for the free pass to Annual Conference. These forms are required of all churches.

There are other forms that are required of most churches, and should also be submitted after your church charge conference. Please see the charge conference documents page for details on those forms.

The majority of churches have charge conference before December 15th, however, if your church is having their charge conference after December 15th, the forms can be submitted “pending charge conference confirmation.”

Forms must be submitted in proper format to be counted.

For example: we cannot accept an Officer List of just names!

  • When the pipes freeze at the church and the pastor is on vacation the name of the Trustees Chair is not as helpful as the name, address, and phone number.
  • When we get information about a youth scholarship program it is more helpful to be able to send that information to the Youth Leader, the Office Admin, and the Pastor, than to just send it to the Pastor alone.
  • Same person the Treasurer Chair as last year? We need to know! The Office List data is set with an expiration date of one year. If we do not get the form, your leadership role expires and we don’t know who to contact if there is a problem with your apportionments.

Officer Lists are updated in the computer system. We need names, addresses, phone numbers, and (hopefully) emails for all Chairs. This is to help us reach out to the church with important information.

Want to double check that we have your forms?

Unsure of what additional forms apply to your church?

Can’t get a form to work on your computer?

Please contact the District Service Center, we are here to help!

Roots & Wings

Join us for our annual Puget Sound District training event, Roots and Wings!  Our theme is Many Gifts, One Spirit; Many Roles, One Church.  Joan Holms, our keynote speaker, will talk about clergy/lay partnership.  This year we’re offering a chance to attend a morning and an afternoon workshop.  In addition to training for SPPRC, Finance, and Trustee committees, there are many more choices on a variety of topics!

Check in begins at 9:00 AM.  Anacortes UMC is graciously hosting the event this year and will be serving lunch!  Gluten-free and vegetarian choices are available.  The cost for the workshop, including lunch, is $20.  Scholarships are available for those who need financial assistance (contact Kyle at 888.818.4288).  Childcare is available.

Click HERE for a flyer with the schedule and workshop descriptions.  Please share this information with others in your congregation. We’re looking forward to seeing you in Anacortes on January 30!
