CANCELLED: Indianola Young Adult Social Justice Retreat
January 19, 2019 @ 2:00 pm - January 21, 2019 @ 11:00 am
“What does the Lord require of you but to do justice, to love kindness, and to walk humbly with your God.”
-Micah 6:8
What is your part in changing the world?
Do you feel overwhelmed by injustice you see in the news? Ever feel helpless and lost when looking for ways to make a difference in the world?
We all have our part to play, and as followers of Christ, we feel the burden of pain and hardship in the world around us. Our communities, country, and world should be places of peace, justice, and thriving for everyone. Sometimes the challenges can feel so big and our abilities so small. But you can be a part of addressing major social challenges and moving the Gospel forward in the lives of those around you.
Join us Saturday, Jan 19, 2pm – Monday, Jan 21, 11am
We’ll be joined by Lyda Pierce, Director of Hispanic & Latino Ministries for the Pacific Northwest United Methodist Conference, as we explore social justice through the lens of Christian faith. Break-out sessions will help you get involved in your own community and apply Lyda’s wisdom.
Cost: $80
“The United Methodist Church believes God’s love for the world is an active and engaged love, a love seeking justice and liberty. We cannot just be observers. So we care enough about people’s lives to risk interpreting God’s love, to take a stand, to call each of us into a response, no matter how controversial or complex. The church helps us think and act out a faith perspective, not just responding to all the other ‘mind-makers-up’ that exist in our society.”
