Let’s tackle hunger & beat New England together!

As the Seattle Seahawks face the New England Patriots in the 2026 Super Bowl, the Pactific Northwest Conference has challenged the New England Conference to see who can raise the most food/dollars as part of the nationwide Tackle Hunger effort. If your church is participating in an effort to collect food or donations, we want to hear about it (and share our good news with the folks in the New England Conference).

How to participate

The competition is simple. Churches in the Pacific Northwest Conference, and others beyond that might strongly identify as Seahawks fans, are asked to collect as many non-perishable items as they can between now and Sunday, February 8, when Super Bowl LX will be played in Santa Clara, California. In the interest of Christian charity, collections can be taken from Patriots fans as well.

Collection tallies need to be reported using the form linked on this page by 10 a.m. Monday, February 9. Please use it to share the total number of items and financial donations received.

Sign up your church

In advance of the big game, churches can use the form below to share they are participating and also designate themselves as a drop-off site (optional) for other United Methodists and local community members via the sign-up form on this page. Churches that name themselves as drop-off locations will be added to this page as they submit themselves.

Food goods and financial donations collected in local churches will go to a local charity chosen by the church.

What items should you collect

Food banks most need shelf-stable, nutritious items such as canned proteins (beans, tuna, chicken), peanut butter, rice, pasta, cereal, and low-sodium vegetables, along with hygiene items like soap and toothpaste. Because needs vary by season and community, a best practice for local churches is to contact their neighborhood food bank directly and ask what items are most needed before collecting donations, ensuring gifts are timely, useful, and respectful of those served.
