Vancouver District – 3rd Annual Charity Golf Tournament

Drive Out! Homelessness 3rd Annual Charity Golf Tournament

Benefiting Council for the Homeless of Clark County

Calling all golfers: Methodist churches in the greater Portland and Vancouver areas are organizing the third annual Drive Out golf tournament to benefit homelessness.

The tournament will be held at the private Orchard Hills Golf and Country Club in Washougal, WA on Saturday, September 16th, 2017.

A four-person scramble format will allow golfers of every ability to enjoy the course together. Join us for a day of fun in the sun for a great cause! Players can register individually, with one or two friends, or as a foursome!

Vancouver Clergy Retreat – Cultivating Compassion

Cultivating Compassion: A retreat to develop spiritual practices that draw us into the love of God for ourselves and for others. We will experience God’s deep compassion known to us in Jesus and learn how we can extend that compassion to ourselves, to those we love, and to those we struggle to love. We will move through an exploration of how to catch our breath and experience the radical way of Jesus’ compassion, how to know our own compassion heart and our ability to love others, and then move through our fears, longings and wounds, so that we are free to see and treat others as God’s beloved children.

All meals are included within the retreat, from Monday lunch through Tuesday lunch.

Rooms are hotel-style with private baths and all linens provided. The district is subsidizing the cost of lodging and meals.

Double Occupancy ($75)

Single Occupancy ($100)

Seattle District Laity Uprising 2

One common ministry of the Seattle District is some form of care for the homeless.  So, on September 17th we’ll have an opportunity to experience a Poverty Simulation led by Lisa Gustafson of Seattle University, afterwards we will meet, have lunch, and work together to form a District strategic response to the crisis of homelessness in King County.

Although clergy are not required to attend it is strongly encouraged for clergy to come and/or to send a team. After all, every District church has some form of ministry with the homeless. For clergy that do attend, CE credit is available.

Seattle District Clergy Day Apart

seattle rain copyThe Seattle District Clergy Day Apart will be on Wednesday January 6th (10-3pm) at Des Moines UMC.

Most of our time will be spent in spiritual practice and various forms of prayer.  We will be led by Jenn Peterson and are asked to come with our hearts open seeking warmth.

No business!  Just a day apart from stress and struggle.  A Sabbath break in the midst of our District cluster.

May this day be a refreshment and a delight.

* Bring your own lunch, and suitable outside wear for a mid-day stroll on the beach. (There are several places to eat if you don’t want to brown-bag it.)

You do not need to print tickets, but please REGISTER HERE so we can get an accurate head-count.
