Peace with Justice Sunday

Peace with Justice Sunday is an opportunity to celebrate and recognize the efforts made by United Methodists to feed the hungry, clothe the naked, welcome the stranger, and love their neighbor. What we say matters, and sharing the gospel with our voices helps us share the witness of our faith. Yet words alone cannot build a peaceable kingdom. Christ said, ‘Feed the hungry,’ not ‘Talk to the hungry about food!’

Peace with Justice is about doing the things we talk about. To live our faith through acts of mercy, kindness, and mission globally and here at home, we ask United Methodists around the world to help. Your financial contribution helps us meet the need for justice. Your gift helps us purchase the tools and equip people for ministry. Your help means we can train up leaders to uplift our world.

Peace with Justice Sunday is May 26, 2024. Learn about the impact you can have by lending your effort and making a gift to this important effort.

The MLK Award is a chance to honor an individual – who is a member of or regular participant in a UM Congregation in the PNW Annual Conference, or a clergy member of the PNW Conference – whose work embodies the legacy and commitment of Dr. King to the long arc of social justice.  Funding for this award is from donations on Peace with Justice Sunday, traditionally held on the Sunday after Pentecost across the United Methodist Church, and coordinated through the PNW Conference Board of Church and Society.   The recipient will be able to designate a non-profit that will receive a modest grant in the recipient’s honor.

These awards are granted through funds given through Peace with Justice Sunday, usually held the Sunday after Pentecost each year throughout our denomination.  The award is coordinated by our Conference Board of Church and Society, which works with the Peace with Justice program to advance the work of Church & Society in our area and in the world.

Both Methodist-related organizations/projects as well as organizations and projects that have some connection to or consistent with UMC commitments to social justice, inclusion, and liberation are welcome to apply.

The standard award is for $1,000, but there may be occasional opportunities for more to be provided.
