The class will be held on Zoom on Thursday from 1:00 to 3:30 PM and will count as one CEU of your continuing education requirement. \nBased on Magrath’s new book\, Love Abides: The Sacrament of Grieving\, this class will explore the myths about grief and the many life events and losses that result in grief. We will examine the life experiences that shaped our thoughts about grief and how to challenge unhealthy beliefs and responses. We will dive into the situations unique to ministry that lead to grief yet are not always recognized as such. We will share our own grief stories\, practice the language of lament\, and gain more understanding of how to compassionately walk with parishioners who are grieving\, especially when their loss leads to a crisis of faith. Lastly\, we will seek to find meaning in our losses and transform them in life-giving ways that open us to hope and healing. \nSue Magrath is a retired mental health counselor and spiritual director who has been active in the Pacific Northwest Annual Conference for fourteen years. She has led retreats and workshops\, worked in clergy wellness\, served on the Board of Ordained Ministry’s formation committee\, and preached whenever she has the opportunity. Sue has led Advanced Boundary classes every quadrennium since 2012. SUMMARY:Advanced Boundary Training (Session 2 of 2)
DESCRIPTION:Sue Magrath and Zach Taylor are offering a virtual Advanced Boundary Training on subsequent Thursday afternoons in April and May to fulfill the boundary requirement for clergy. The dates are April 25th and May 2nd\, 2024 from 1 PM to 4 PM PST. Attendance at both sessions is mandatory. Sue Magrath will be leading the first of the two sessions on April 25th; Zach Taylor will be assisting Sue in leading the second session on May 2nd. The advanced training is for clergy who have already participated in one or more boundary workshops in the past. The class involves discussion of case studies prepared by the participants. Case studies should be prepared in advance in a Word document and sent to the presenter a week prior to the first session. They should be based on a pastoral situation the attendee experienced in which boundary issues were a significant factor. Please describe the incident\, your actions\, the outcome\, and what you learned and/or might have done differently. Please submit this to the presenter at least one week prior to the class. Send the case studies to Sue Magrath (suemagrath@msn.com) and Zach Taylor (pastorzacharytaylor@gmail.com). Cost is $25 per person. DESCRIPTION:Can We Affect the Housing Problem? \nThe lack of affordable housing throughout the country is well documented. But what\, if anything\, can churches do to make a difference? If you want to be a part of the affordable housing solution but don’t know where to start or what to do\, you are invited to a workshop entitled “Housing 101” on May 10 from 1-3 pm PST on Zoom. This invitation is to the entire Greater Northwest Episcopal Area. \nThis workshop is being hosted by Wesley UMC in Yakima and led by Pastor Shane Moore and Marty Miller. Marty Miller is the executive director of the Office of Rural and Farmworker Housing (ORFH) in Yakima. Marty has been with ORFH for over 20 years and brings wide expertise on the issues of affordable housing.
