SUMMARY:Worship Workshops: “small bites\, BIG FLAVOR”
DESCRIPTION:As a layperson\, do you find yourself responsible for leading worship? Do you need help with worship resources? Would you like to learn skills to enhance worship leadership in your small church? If so\, these worship workshops are for you! \nThe Pacific Northwest (PNW) Conference has invited Dr. Marcia McFee to lead three workshops over the next several months to empower laity to become more effective in worship planning and leading. Bitesize mindset and skillset lessons will be taught\, which can add flavor to your worship. Resources for each liturgical season will also be shared. \n\nAugust 16-18\, 2024 – Advent / Christmas / Epiphany – held in (and live-streamed from) Spokane Valley UMC\, Spokane Valley\, WA\nJanuary 10-12\, 2025 – Lent / Holy Week / Easter – held in (and live-streamed from) First UMC\, Olympia\, WA\nMay 3\, 2025 – Ordinary Time – held in (and live-streamed from) Wesley UMC\, Yakima\, WA\nAn orientation will be held on Wednesday\, July 31st at 9 a.m. PT\, a recording of which will also be available\n\nWhile these workshops are offered with laypersons in mind\, pastors of small churches are especially invited to attend with their laity. Pastors of larger churches are welcome but strongly encouraged to see this event as an opportunity to equip and train laity as partners in worship design. \nClick here to review the schedule for these workshops. \nParticipants from the Alaska\, Oregon-Idaho\, and PNW Conferences will have free access to all three workshops\, both in person and online. SUMMARY:PNW Leadership Summit & Immersive Learning Opportunity
DESCRIPTION:The 2024 PNW Conference Leadership Summit will occur on October 24-26\, 2024\, at Wesley United Methodist Church in Yakima\, Washington. The event will inform and equip lay and clergy members of conference boards and agencies as they begin or continue to serve in positions during the new quadrennium. \nClick here to register. \nThe event will begin at noon on Thursday\, October 24. In cooperation with the Board of Ordained Ministry\, the first day of programming will offer an immersive learning opportunity led by Corey Greaves\, president and founder of Mending Wings. Presentations will help participants better understand the history and harm caused by the Westward expansion of European settlers\, the role of Methodists\, and efforts to preserve and celebrate Indigenous culture on the Yakama Reservation today. \nThis immersive learning opportunity is open to pastoral leaders beyond those participating in the Leadership Summit. It meets the quadrennial cultural competency for the quadrennium ending December 31\, 2024. Other opportunities to meet this criteria are on the conference calendar\, with more details coming soon. \nThe second day of programming (beginning at noon on Friday\, October 25) will include worship\, a keynote by Bishop Cedrick Bridgeforth\, and informational resourcing from other conference staff and leaders to equip boards and agencies with their work. The event will conclude around Noon on Saturday\, October 26.

DESCRIPTION:The Gathering of the Orders and Fellowships will be September 27-29\, 2023\, at Wesley United Methodist Church in Yakima\, Washington. We will be welcoming deaconesses and home missioners to the gathering for the first time. Check-in for the gathering opens at noon on Sept. 27\, with our opening session beginning at 2 p.m. The gathering will conclude with lunch on the 29th. Janet Wolf is an elder in The United Methodist Church and has served as a pastor of rural and urban congregations. She is a college and seminary professor\, community mediator\, learner\, and partner for transformative justice. \nIn July 2012\, she was appointed to work with Marian Wright Edelman and the Children’s Defense Fund on nonviolent direct-action organizing to dismantle the cradle-to-prison pipeline\, work that includes the organization’s Freedom Schools and the annual Proctor Institute for Child Advocacy Ministry. She is the author of “To See and To Be Seen\,” a chapter in I Was in Prison: United Methodist Perspectives on Prison Ministry\, edited by James M. Shopshire Sr.\, et al.\, and numerous other writings. She is the author of the book Practicing Resurrection: The Gospel of Mark and Radical Discipleship.

Rush\n\n\n\n\n\n\nIssue Study: Pushout: The Criminalization of Black Girls in Schools by Dr. Monique Morris\n\nThis insightful book invites the reader to learn about the school-to-prison pipeline\, school-to­-confinement pathways and school pushout through the words and stories of dozens of young people from all across the country\, historical information and careful reflection. Push out was not written specifically for United Methodist Women or a Mission u context; it was published in 2016 by The New Press for a general audience.\n\nThis study will be co-lead by Rev. Donna Farrell\, Angela Reed\, and Nica Sy.

SUMMARY:Gathering of the Orders - From Desperation to Radical Love
DESCRIPTION:How do we dismantle the lie of competition\, which arises from the Protestant Affliction that leads to isolation\, working in silos\, apathy\, and despair in order to be deeply committed to radical love\, which requires vulnerability and risk? \nHow does one maintain a core of hope and love in the midst of division\, fear\, and desperation? In systems where fear has asserted itself and where scarcity\, competition\, desperation\, and division have become driving forces\, what is the work of leaders in nurturing a different narrative? Our nation and our denomination are both torn and broken. We feel the effects deeply – in our work and in our souls. \nChitra Hanstad\, Executive Director of World Relief Seattle\, will serve as our keynote speaker. \nAt this year’s Gathering of the Orders\, we’ll extend our focus from the Gathering of Orders at AC\, towards a deep commitment to radical love. The gathering is for Elders\, Deacons (including provisional elders and deacons)\, Local Pastors\, Certified Lay Ministers\, and Lay Persons Assigned. \nParticipants will explore the theme together through worship\, plenary session presentations\, workshops\, panel discussions\, experiential learning\, and small group discussions (with opportunities to “continue the conversation”). \nWorkshop descriptions will be provided to those who register by email. SUMMARY:CANCELLED Advanced Boundary Training (Second Session)
DESCRIPTION:Seven Rivers District is offering two Advanced Boundary Trainings this spring to fulfill the boundary requirement for clergy. This is the second of those trainings – the first training is on April 30. The advanced training is for clergy who have already participated in one or more boundary workshops in the past. The class involves discussion of case studies prepared by the participants. These should be prepared prior to the training\, based on a personal experience related to boundary issues. Please describe the incident\, your actions\, the outcome\, and what you learned and/or might have done differently. This study should be typed out and e-mailed to the presenter so that it can be forwarded to all participants prior to the training.  Please submit this to the presenter at least one week prior to the class.  \nCANCELLED APRIL 22\, 2019. \nA limited lunch selection will be provided: two types of homemade soup\, one made with meat\, the other vegetarian and gluten-free. If neither choice appeals to you\, please feel free to bring your own lunch.
