SUMMARY:Spring Youth Overnighter: Born Again
DESCRIPTION:What does it mean to be ‘Born Again’? What does that look like? How do we do that? Do we change something about ourselves\, or is it not about us and about the Holy Spirit changing us? Do you need to do something incredible? Whether you are ready\, scared\, confused\, or curious\, we will explore all of this at Kent United Methodist Church. \nWHO is invited: Youth 6th-12th Grade! \nWHAT are we going to do: Food\, Worship\, Music\, Games\, Smash Bros\, Karaoke\, Ice Cream\, etc. \nWHERE is it: @ Kent UMC (11010 SE 248th St\, Kent\, WA 98030 \nWHEN is it: April 18 at 1 PM – April 19 at 12 PM \nWHY are we doing this: To continue the momentum of fellowship and tradition within our PNW Conference Youth! \nHOW much is the cost: $10 per Youth. \nEJ Ragual: Host/Operations Coordinator: In charge of all operations\, and the host of the event. \nFhedrick Caoili: Worship/Band Coordinator: In charge of the worship portion\, and all band practices\, setlist\, and leading worship. \nHi all! My name is EJ Ragual. I am the Youth Leader for Kent UMC. I am truly excited to be hosting the Spring Overnighter here in Kent alongside Beacon’s Handsome Youth Leader: Fhedrick Caoili. \nWe are pouring our heart and soul into this Overnighter; so you/your youth can feel the Holy Spirit and the impact Jesus has on our lives. Our schedule and event is packed with a variety of things. From our band: Generations of Miracles (originated from Christmas Institute PNW) playing and leading worship\, to fun games\, workshops\, devotion\, and extremely delicious food (variety!). The schedule can be found here. Though the schedule may adjust as the Overnighter gets closer. \nWe would like each Youth\, and Adult to register through our Google Form link (https://forms.gle/iYdURCGLvisoYgzg6). A QR Code is also provided to you for easy access if you need to print things out. We do still welcome last-minute registrations\, so there will be paper registration forms to fill out if needed. \nRegistration for each Youth will help us stay organized and up to date with how many youth are going. This helps us with food\, activities\, expectations\, rooms\, etc. Please register and do not delay it. Laura Baumgartner\nRev. Laura Baumgartner is the Pastor at Haller Lake United Methodist Church in Seattle and serves as the Board Chair of Earth Ministry Washington Interfaith Power and Light. Laura first worked with Earth Ministry/WAIPL as an intern during her seminary program and has been part of faith-based environmental efforts ever since. She has an undergraduate degree in Chemistry from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology\, a Master’s Degree in Environmental Engineering from the Illinois Institute of Technology\, and Master’s of Divinity from Seattle University. Laura is married to her husband\, Eric\, and they have a college-aged daughter\, Grace\, and a very fluffy dog\, Calvin. She loves to walk\, swim\, read\, and bake.

DESCRIPTION:TOWARDS A NEW URBAN STRATEGY\nWith Keynoter Jason Byassee \nRev. Dr. Jason Byassee\nJason Byassee is a Professor of Biblical Hermeneutics at Vancouver School of Theology. Previously\, he was senior pastor of Boone United Methodist Church in the Western North Carolina Conference. He serves as a contributing editor to Christian Century\, and is the author of Trinity: The God We Don’t Know\, The Gifts of the Small Church\, Reading Augustine: A Guide to Confessions\, An Introduction to the Sayings of the Desert Fathers\, and Praise Seeking Understanding: Reading the Psalms with Augustine.  (Eerdmans\, 2007). He has also co-authored the upcoming Faithful and Fractured with Dr. Rae Jean Proeschold-Bell.  Dr. Byassee will also meet with SPRC’s to talk about this book about clergy mental health.\n\nOther workshops will include an SPRC training\, and sessions on Urban Discipleship\, Urban Strategies for Families\, Community Organizing\, Contemplative Prayer\, Earth Justice\, and Interfaith Partnerships.  Pastor John Helmiere will also give a teaching on Table Turning Theology. This represents a cataclysmic reversal of our social fabric that leaves most members of our neighborhoods isolated\, unknown and under pressure. This trend\, alongside the rise of massive income inequality and the suburbanization of poverty\, has turned the field of ministry of most of our churches upside down.\nWho is my neighbor? What are their concerns? What does it mean to love them? What does the future of our congregations look like in the context of this changed social reality?\nWe will spend time together during this workshop discussing an approach to these questions rooted in the methodology of faith-based community organizing.\n\n\n\n\nInterfaith Partnerships  — Nancy Ferree-Clark & Sandy Shinbo (Federal Way)\n\nLearn how the members of Federal Way UMC have built interfaith relationships with nearby faith communities through shared activities such as service projects\, an interfaith women’s reading group\, and visiting each other’s worship services.\n\n\n\n\nSPRC – with Jason Byassee  with Tacoma DS Cara Scriven\n\nFrom his book “Faithful and Fractured”\n\n\n\nAn overview:  Clergy suffer from certain health issues at a rate higher than the general population. Why are pastors in such poor health? And what can be done to help them step into the abundant life God desires for them? \nAlthough anecdotal observations about poor clergy health abound\, concrete data from multiple sources supporting this claim hasn’t been made accessible–until now. Duke’s Clergy Health Initiative (CHI)\, a major\, decade-long research project\, provides a true picture of the clergy health crisis over time and demonstrates that improving the health of pastors is possible. Bringing together the best in social science and medical research\, this book quantifies the poor health of clergy with theological engagement. Although the study focused on United Methodist ministers\, the authors interpret CHI’s groundbreaking data for a broad ecumenical readership. In addition to physical health\, the book examines mental health and spiritual well-being\, and suggests that increasing positive mental health may prevent future physical and mental health problems for clergy. Concrete suggestions tailored to clergy are woven throughout the book. \n\nCreating Contemplative Community — Andy Lang\n\nAs many of us experience disillusionment in the Church yet feel called by tradition\, social networks\, and our own personal histories to remain a part of it\, there is a need for transformative change. In this workshop\, we’ll explore how to move beyond disillusionment using contemplative practices and how to create and foster authentic community within our own contexts. SUMMARY:Board of Pensions on Investing/Benefits
DESCRIPTION:In the first two weeks of May seven meetings will take place around the conference. Each meeting covers the same issues. The meetings are open to all voting members of annual conference. \nThe meeting will cover four issues with the first issue on the agenda having relevance to all voting members of annual conference. The other issues will cover clergy benefits which will not be relevant to the lay members that attend. The issues covered are as follows: \n\nA resolution coming from the conference board of pensions that responds to the divestment from fossil fuels companies petition that was passed at last year’s annual conference requiring conference investments to be fossil free by January 1\, 2018.\nAutomatic enhancements with the United Methodist Personal Investment Plan beginning January 1\, 2018. If one is currently contributing less then 2% of their plan compensation to UMPIP the automatic enhancements will impact them beginning January 1\, 2018.
