Lawyers helping immigrant families. Also, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sentencingproject.org\/\">sentencingproject.org<\/a> offers alternatives to mass incarceration.<\/td><\/tr><tr><td>2013<\/td><td>4th year<\/td><td>Discussed the United States\u2019 southern border wall and fences.<\/td><\/tr><tr><td>2014<\/td><td>5th year<\/td><td>Studied the <em>Book of RUTH<\/em>, including downloadable resources from UMW.<\/td><\/tr><tr><td>2015<\/td><td>6th year<\/td><td>We delivered a sermon to the congregation on immigration and civil rights.<\/td><\/tr><tr><td>2016<\/td><td>7th year<\/td><td>Studied the effects of the \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.gilderlehrman.org\/history-resources\/spotlight-primary-source\/doctrine-discovery-1493\">Doctrine of Discovery<\/a>.\u201d Endorsed in 1493 by Pope Alexander, this doctrine contributed to the much suffering of the America\u2019s Indigenous peoples, including \u201cThe Trail of Tears,\u201d and more.<\/td><\/tr><tr><td>2017<\/td><td>8th year<\/td><td>Studied about Juneteenth and the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.archives.gov\/exhibits\/featured-documents\/emancipation-proclamation\">Emancipation Proclamation of 1865<\/a>.<\/td><\/tr><tr><td>2018<\/td><td>9th year<\/td><td>Discussed \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/newjimcrow.com\/\">The New Jim Crow<\/a>\u201c book, by Michelle Alexander, about the treatment of blacks versus whites in the legal system.<\/td><\/tr><tr><td>2019<\/td><td>10th year<\/td><td>Discussed <a href=\"https:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Mighty-Be-Our-Powers-Sisterhood\/dp\/0984295194\">Leymah Gbowee<\/a>, Nobel Peace Prize recipient, who is a Liberian peace activist responsible for leading a women\u2019s non-violent peace movement, <a href=\"https:\/\/thenonviolenceproject.wisc.edu\/2024\/02\/04\/how-women-ended-liberias-civil-war-women-of-liberia-mass-action-for-peace\/\">Women of Liberia Mass Action for Peace<\/a>, that helped bring an end to the Second Liberian Civil War in 2003.<\/td><\/tr><tr><td>2020<\/td><td>11th year<\/td><td>Discussed the \u201cSchool to Prison Pipeline,\u201c directing non-white children and youth, even as young as 6-year-olds, toward detention facilities in our country.<\/td><\/tr><tr><td>2021<\/td><td>12th year<\/td><td>Studied the KKK\u2019s (Ku Klux Klan) history in Washington State. This organization is still active in Washington.<\/td><\/tr><tr><td>2022<\/td><td>13th year<\/td><td>Read about missing indigenous women and girls (sex trafficking) and native American children who died at boarding schools.<\/td><\/tr><tr><td>2023<\/td><td>14th year<\/td><td>Discussed the UMW book<a href=\"https:\/\/ntcumc.org\/UMW_RJtimeline.pdf\"> Racial Justice Timeline, Important Moments of Racial Justice History in the United States and United Methodist Women<\/a>.<\/td><\/tr><tr><td>2024<\/td><td>15th year<\/td><td>Read <em>Back to the Book <\/em>by Alice Knotts, featuring 14 chapters on the lessons learned from the journey from 1920 to 1968, as well as changing attitudes and WARN (Washington Anti-Trafficking Response).<\/td><\/tr><\/tbody><\/table><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><br>\u00a0<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Omak\u2013Seven Rivers District\u201415th YEAR!
