Job Description

Reports to Director of Discipleship

Description This position develops, coordinates, implements, and oversees programming to explore the wonders of God, grow in faith, and share love like Jesus for children from pre-K to 6th grade.

Through the work of the Director of Children’s Ministries, children from pre-K to sixth grade will:

  • Know that they are loved by God and by their Church community
  • Learn about their faith in a nurturing, safe, and healthy environment
  • Become better equipped for daily living as faithful Christian disciples
  • Have fun!

Responsibilities

  • Provide strategic planning and visioning for ministry
  • Offer and oversee age-appropriate Sunday morning programming, which may include selecting or developing curricula and resources
  • Work closely with and support volunteer leaders of the Sunday evening BUMY JV program
  • Be present on Sunday mornings in and between worship services to connect with current and new children (and their families) and to deliver Children’s Time messages regularly
  • Hold three church-wide events every calendar year: Easter Egg Hunt, Summer Vacation Bible School, Rock-the-Knock
  • Coordinate and commemorate special life moments in children’s faith journeys: gifts for infant baptisms, Bibles for rising third graders, graduating into Youth Group
  • Recruit, manage, motivate, and equip volunteers
  • Ensure that the needs of children with all abilities are addressed
  • Ensure that the church’s Safe Sanctuaries policy is implemented and enforced within Children’s Ministries programs
  • Coordinate regular communication to children and families about Children’s Ministries programming and special events
  • Support the creation of and manage the Children’s Ministries budget
  • Coordinate the care and maintenance of Children’s Ministries spaces
  • Attend weekly staff meetings and support other ministry areas, as needed

  • Understand and commit to the vision of the United Methodist Church and of Bothell United Methodist Church
  • Exude friendly, professional, and approachable demeanor
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills (both written and spoken)
  • Ability to meet deadlines
  • Enthusiastic approach to problem solving/ability to help generate novel and creative ideas
  • Ability to recruit and supervise unpaid volunteers
  • Reliable and consistent follow through
  • Four-year college degree or equivalent work experience
