Are you willing to go the extra mile with the victims? If you are, you may want to become a disaster case manager. Cathy Earl, UMCOR Executive Secretary, will be providing Basic Case Management training for the community long-term recovery organizations and individuals affected by the 2014 Eastern Washington Wildfires. Here is the description of the course from UMCOR’s training catalogue:

Disaster Case Management is a two-day, in-depth course designed to prepare caring helpers for their work in guiding survivors through to their recovery. UMCOR’s model for disaster case management is a holistic approach, which incorporates the unique perspective of the faith community with an understanding of the emotional, spiritual and physical impact of the disaster on survivors. The course teaches how to identify and address unmet recovery needs of all survivors, particularly people who were vulnerable before a disaster. UMCOR’s Disaster Case Management Trainings are consistent with relevant standards of practice.

Case managers are typically full-time or part-time employees of long-term recovery organizations. Disaster Case Management training of this quality is seldom available in the Pacific Northwest. This is a great opportunity for us to build a team of case managers who may be available for present and future disasters.

The training will be conducted in Twisp, Wash., on Tuesday and Wednesday, October 14 and 15, 2014. The training will run from 8:30 am to 4:30 pm both days. Refreshments and lunch will be provided. There is no charge for this training.

UMCOR Case Management Training will be held at
Friendship Alliance Church
809 Highway 20
Winthrop, WA 98862
(a few miles north of Twisp).

CLICK AND SAVE THIS REGISTRATION FORM, BELOW:

Please e-mail your registration to pastorstan@umcsandpoint.org or pastorgerri@umcsandpoint.org.

Or mail your registration form to:

Sandpoint UMC
711 Main Street
Sandpoint ID 83864

Registration forms are DUE: Tuesday, October 7, 2014.

Class size is limited and first priority will go to those in the wildfire area.
