The last thing I ever expected, happened. \u00a0GC2012 is inspiring me. \u00a0 This is what started it. \u00a0A photo of simple, green sign posted in the booth space assigned to the United Methodist Women. It reads:<\/p>\n

In 600 square feet,
\nit is impossible to show
\n143 years of women in mission,
\nthe work our members are doing
\nin their churches and communities
\nevery\u00a0day.
\nthe lives transformed through
\nthe global ministries of the Church,
\nand all the ways United Methodist Women
\nwill movie into the next 143 years.<\/p>\n

So, instead, we used the money to
\nfully fund the seminary education
\nof two female local pastors in Cameroon.<\/p>\n

Turning faith, hope and love into action.<\/strong>“<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Yes! \u00a0YES! \u00a0I was inspired by the act AND by the messaging of it. \u00a0Simple, clear, powerful, head-turning.<\/p>\n

I reposted the photo on facebook and it wasn’t just church-going folk who responded and applauded. One woman I talked to yesterday said, “that’s the kind of church I could be interested in. I stopped going a long time ago, because that’s not what church was. \u00a0I sometimes think about going on Easter, but then I look at the expensive colored flowery Easter ads churches put in the newspaper and I think, nothing’s changed.”<\/p>\n

That simple sign had this woman rethinking what she thought she knew about church; she’s considering giving it another try. \u00a0It had me rethinking what I thought I knew about General Conference; I even woke early today to livestream<\/a> the proceedings. \u00a0Their sign stirred something deep in me.<\/p>\n
