Numerous event-specific resources are available for congregations, including a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.umc.org\/who-we-are\/we-still-believe-celebrating-50-years-of-the-united-methodist-church\">video<\/a> created to honor the church\u2019s legacy since April 23, 1968, when leaders of the Evangelical United Brethren Church and The Methodist Church declared the creation of a new denomination, The United Methodist Church.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMay 20, 2018 is Pentecost PLUS!,\u201d said the Rev. Fred Day, general secretary of the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.gcah.org\">General Commission of Archives and History\u00a0<\/a>(GCAH). \u201cNot only is the third Sunday of May, Pentecost, the culmination of the great 50 days of Eastertide, the day for celebrating the loosing of the Holy Spirit at Pentecost and the gift of Christian unity, it is also Heritage Sunday. This year the Heritage Sunday theme is \u2018Jubilee\u2019 in a nod to the 50<sup>th<\/sup> anniversary, which often is referred to as the Golden Jubilee.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDon\u2019t miss this once in a lifetime intersection,\u201d Day said.<\/p>\n<p>In addition to the video, numerous <a href=\"http:\/\/www.gcah.org\/resources\/heritage-sunday-2018\">resources<\/a> have been developed and made available specifically for the 50<sup>th<\/sup> anniversary of the uniting conference, including liturgical materials, the original uniting conference <a href=\"https:\/\/vimeo.com\/250196677\">video<\/a>, and a <a href=\"http:\/\/s3.amazonaws.com\/gcah.org\/The_UMC_at_50-_A_Quick_Refresher2.pdf\">reference guide<\/a> to the church\u2019s history. <a href=\"http:\/\/umc.org\/\">UMC.org<\/a>, the official website of The United Methodist Church, is featuring anniversary content at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.umc.org\/topics\/the-50th-anniversary-of-the-united-methodist-church\">UMC.org\/umc50<\/a>. A hashtag &#8212; #UMC50 \u2013 is being used for all anniversary-themed content across social media channels.<\/p>\n<p>The new video, titled \u201cWe Still Believe: Celebrating 50 Years of The United Methodist Church,\u201d was created by GCAH and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.umcdiscipleship.org\">Discipleship Ministries<\/a>, in cooperation with <a href=\"http:\/\/www.umcom.org\">United Methodist Communications<\/a>. The video can be viewed and downloaded <a href=\"http:\/\/www.umc.org\/who-we-are\/we-still-believe-celebrating-50-years-of-the-united-methodist-church\">here<\/a>. Also, the video will be shown via Facebook Live on The United Methodist Church\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/unitedmethodistchurch\/\">Facebook page<\/a> at noon C.T. May 9.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are celebrating 50 years since a historic joining among likeminded Christians,\u201d Day said. \u201cDuring a time of great social upheaval and division, the witness of the 1968-born United Methodist Church was one of the coming together of people from different regions, languages, cultures and customs because of their common grounding in Wesleyan spirituality and practice,\u201d Day said.<\/p>\n<p>Commemorative events have been occurring at the conference, district and local church levels since April 22, the Sunday before the April 23 anniversary.
