We continue to do so <span style=\"color: #808000;\"><strong>not as the typical traditional church<\/strong><\/span>. It will be <span style=\"color: #808000;\"><strong>unusual, flexible, multicultural, engaging, while seeking justice<\/strong><\/span> towards peacemaking without limits.<\/p>\n<p>As I help build a community for faith in <span style=\"color: #808000;\"><strong>Jesus Christ<\/strong><\/span> with <span style=\"color: #808000;\"><strong>Pinoy Van-Port Ministries<\/strong><\/span>, I\u2019ve found that <span style=\"color: #808000;\"><strong>\u201cpeople are people\u201d<\/strong><\/span>. Processing what people like and dislike involves <span style=\"color: #808000;\"><strong>deep listening<\/strong><\/span>. Some will say that you are going in the <span style=\"color: #808000;\"><strong>\u201cwrong direction\u201d<\/strong><\/span> or even the <span style=\"color: #808000;\"><strong>\u201cwrong crowd\u201d<\/strong><\/span>. Or someone will say, <span style=\"color: #808000;\"><strong>\u201cYou will never have a Filipino Church.\u201d<\/strong><\/span> But part of <span style=\"color: #808000;\"><strong>risk-taking<\/strong><\/span> is believing it can be done <span style=\"color: #808000;\"><strong>if we allow God to be our guide<\/strong><\/span>.<\/p>\n<p><!--more Read more at The PNW News Blog!--><\/p>\n<p>Everyone defines <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Social_justice\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"color: #3366ff;\"><strong>social justice<\/strong><\/span><\/a> in their own way, whether derived from a <span style=\"color: #808000;\"><strong>dictionary<\/strong><\/span> or relating it to <span style=\"color: #808000;\"><strong>Jesus\u2019 life<\/strong><\/span> and teachings. In our ministry, we approach <a href=\"http:\/\/www.pnwumc.org\/news\/ichrp-movement-launches-in-washington\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"color: #3366ff;\"><strong>human rights concerns for the people in the Philippines<\/strong><\/span><\/a>. We make connections with immigrants\u2019 lives in the community when it comes to labor and wages.<\/p>\n<p>My appeal: <span style=\"color: #808000;\"><strong>enough of the doubts<\/strong><\/span>. Pray first and then ask, <span style=\"color: #808000;\"><strong>\u201cWhat does Jesus want us to do in our lives?\u201d<\/strong><\/span> This is a challenge for all of us who professed being Christians.<\/p>\n<p>Remember the verse, <span style=\"color: #808000;\"><strong>Matthew 5: 46-48 (NIV)<\/strong><\/span>?<\/p>\n<p><em>If you love those who love you, what reward will you get? Are not even the tax collectors doing that? And if you greet only your own people, what are you doing more than others? Do not even pagans do that? I\u2019ve found that walking with this group has been a very <span style=\"color: #808000;\"><strong>peaceful, organized, and passionate<\/strong><\/span> protest experience with citizens coming from different countries. Together, we\u2019ve marched for freedom from <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Imperialism\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong><span style=\"color: #3366ff;\">imperialism<\/span><\/strong><\/a>, the call for (racial and criminal justice) <span style=\"color: #808000;\"><strong>equality<\/strong><\/span>, <span style=\"color: #808000;\"><strong>equal &amp; fair wages for immigrant workers<\/strong><\/span>, <span style=\"color: #808000;\"><strong>freedom for activist prisoners<\/strong><\/span>, and <span style=\"color: #808000;\"><strong>a voice for the oppressed<\/strong><\/span> and other human rights violations.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #808000;\"><strong>We are NOT the stereotypes<\/strong><\/span> you might see on the TV news of rallyists who destroy property. These voices want to be<span style=\"color: #808000;\"><strong> loved, protected and accepted<\/strong><\/span>. <span style=\"color: #808000;\"><strong>\u201cYes!\u201d to human rights advocates who march and rally!<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>The work for social justice starts with <span style=\"color: #808000;\"><strong>seeing everyone with a good heart<\/strong><\/span>. In our past gatherings, despite the distance, everyone shows up, open to new possibilities:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"color: #808000;\"><strong>WE WILL<\/strong><\/span> make a difference and we can be a bridge of unity and be better despite our differences.<\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #808000;\"><strong>WE WILL<\/strong><\/span> promote awareness of cultural uniqueness.<\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #808000;\"><strong>WE WILL<\/strong><\/span> emphasize peacemaking starting with simple acts of kindness.<\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #808000;\"><strong>WE WILL<\/strong><\/span> offer a prayer, offer hugs of comfort, and donate to saving\/building children&#8217;s schools for children.<\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #808000;\"><strong>WE WILL<\/strong><\/span> strive to cultivate and strengthen faith to be welcoming and full of compassion for the good of everyone.<\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #808000;\"><strong>WE WILL<\/strong><\/span> continue to reach out to those who are marginalized&#8211; whether they are hungry, homeless, displaced, disabled, or even radical-minded and misunderstood.<\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #808000;\"><strong>WE ALL<\/strong><\/span> deserve the abundance of life\u2019s bounty, love, healing, reconciliation, restructure and more so acceptance of whoever we are <em>(just like how Jesus accepted the woman at the well in <span style=\"color: #808000;\"><strong>John 4<\/strong><\/span> and woman caught on adultery in <span style=\"color: #808000;\"><strong>John 8:1-11<\/strong><\/span>. &#8220;Go and sin no more\u201d. And as <span style=\"color: #808000;\"><strong>Micah 6:8<\/strong><\/span> says &#8220;He has shown you, O mortal, what is good.&#8221;).<\/em><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #808000;\"><strong>WE ALL<\/strong><\/span> are part of the Kingdom of God. Who are we to deny anyone?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"color: #808000;\"><strong>Transformational change<\/strong><\/span> involves bringing conversations into light the forces that are incompatible to peacemaking: <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Racism\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong><span style=\"color: #3366ff;\">racism<\/span><\/strong><\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Xenophobia\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong><span style=\"color: #3366ff;\">xenophobia<\/span><\/strong><\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Prejudice\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"color: #3366ff;\"><strong>prejudice<\/strong><\/span><\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Greed\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"color: #3366ff;\"><strong>greed<\/strong><\/span><\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Jealousy\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"color: #3366ff;\"><strong>jealousy<\/strong><\/span><\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Deception\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"color: #3366ff;\"><strong>deceit<\/strong><\/span><\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Egotism\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"color: #3366ff;\"><strong>ego<\/strong><\/span><\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>How can we inspire future generations, <span style=\"color: #808000;\"><strong>\u201c\u2026to act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God\u201d<\/strong><\/span>? Am I treating a friend or enemy just like we want to be treated?<\/p>\n<p>As a <span style=\"color: #808000;\"><strong>believer<\/strong><\/span>, it is up to us to take that by heart and rethink our actions over and over.
