Valera<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">With the Washington State legislative session in full swing, PNW United Methodists are bringing their values to Olympia. Last week, more than 400 people of faith, including dozens of United Methodists, participated in <span style=\"color: #3366ff;\"><strong><a style=\"color: #3366ff;\" href=\"http:\/\/fanwa.org\" target=\"_blank\">Faith Action Network\u2019s<\/a><\/strong><\/span> Interfaith Advocacy Day (see <span style=\"color: #3366ff;\"><strong><a style=\"color: #3366ff;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/pg\/channels.pnwumc\/photos\/?tab=album&amp;album_id=10155041500098824\" target=\"_blank\">photos<\/a><\/strong><\/span>). Valera and Jenny Phillips meet with Washington Governor Jay Inslee.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>This\u00a0week, Governor Jay Inslee welcomed David Valera, Executive Director of Connectional Ministries, Jenny Phillips, Minister for Environmental Stewardship and Advocacy, and two dozen faith leaders from around the region to discuss ways to do the work of love and justice in Washington.<\/p>\n<p>When leaders from the local chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations presented Governor Inslee with notes from children thanking him for his leadership in opposing the recent immigration ban, he responded by sharing that he has never seen a larger outpouring of support on any issue in his time as governor. He also expressed gratitude for the work of the interfaith community in responding to the ban. The group also discussed the death penalty, the justice issues related to the Real ID act, and the importance of a just carbon tax.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">At both Interfaith Advocacy Day and the meeting with Governor Inslee, political leaders stressed the importance of the faith community\u2019s witness during the legislative session.
