Click the image above to view\u00a0channels_pnwumc on Instagram.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>This year\u2019s quadrennial Leadership Summit emphasized the work ahead for Conference committees and allowed space for the 135 registered participants to share the \u201csummits\u201d and \u201cvalleys\u201d of their ministries.<\/p>\n<p>This meeting was held from Sept. 30 to Oct. 1 at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.vanfumc.org\" target=\"_blank\">First UMC<\/a> in Vancouver, Wash. Held every four years, the Summit welcomes boards and agencies of The Pacific Northwest Conference.<\/p>\n<p>During Opening Worship, the Rev. Jon Short, pastor of First UMC presented a message referring to the folk story of <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Stone_Soup\" target=\"_blank\">\u201cstone soup\u201d<\/a>. Attendees connected this story with their work together, each member contributing ingredients of experience, gifts, and skills to help create something special for all to share.<\/p>\n<p>Other highlights included workshops like <em>\u201cCulture and Communication for Effective Teams\u201d<\/em>, presentations on Communications (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/pnwumc\" target=\"_blank\">social media<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.pnwumc.org\/channels\" target=\"_blank\">storytelling<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.regionalmediacenter.org\" target=\"_blank\">Regional Media Center<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.pnwumc.org\/calendar\/\" target=\"_blank\">PNW Conference Calendar<\/a>, etc.), and a report on the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.facebook.com\/umvim.pnwumc\" target=\"_blank\">Rebuild Up from the Ashes<\/a> project (which collected $1200 during offering at the Summit).<\/p>\n<p><!--more Read more about the Leadership Summit at The PNW News Blog!--><\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_14029\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-14029\" style=\"width: 200px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-14029\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.pnwumc.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/NEWS_Summit_BishopElaine-200x300.jpg?resize=200%2C300\" alt=\"Bishop Elaine Stanovsky of The Greater Northwest Area addresses attendees of the Leadership Summit.\" width=\"200\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.pnwumc.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/NEWS_Summit_BishopElaine.jpg?resize=200%2C300&amp;ssl=1 200w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.pnwumc.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/NEWS_Summit_BishopElaine.jpg?resize=280%2C420&amp;ssl=1 280w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.pnwumc.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/NEWS_Summit_BishopElaine.jpg?w=300&amp;ssl=1 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 200px) 100vw, 200px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-14029\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Bishop Elaine Stanovsky of The Greater Northwest Area addresses attendees of the Leadership Summit.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Pastor Harriet Wilkin who serves <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/umcofephrata\" target=\"_blank\">The United Methodist Church of Ephrata<\/a>, opens up on a moment at the Summit she felt was very valuable. \u201cThe exercise (using three words to identify challenges over the next four years) provided dialogue to deepen discussions and provided another way for those attending to get to know one another.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s helpful to be mindful of where the different boards and councils intersect,\u201d said Pastor Cody Natland, who serves at <a href=\"http:\/\/centralumcsw.org\" target=\"_blank\">Central United Methodist Church at Sedro-Woolley<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bayviewumc.com\" target=\"_blank\">Bay View United Methodist Church<\/a> in Mount Vernon. \u201cIt was a gift for me to be able to connect with them about our shared passion for reaching and empowering young people,\u201d said Natland, who referenced ties between the Camping Board of Stewards and the Board of Higher Education and Campus Ministries.<\/p>\n<p>On Friday evening, <a href=\"http:\/\/greaternw.org\/threshold-thoughts\/\" target=\"_blank\">Bishop Elaine Stanovsky<\/a> addressed the Summit announcing that she is softly entering the new Episcopal Area, with a focus on listening and observing. Gibson led his presentation, &#8220;Making Disciples Together&#8221; at the quadrennial Leadership Summit.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>On Saturday morning, The Rev. Bill Gibson presented <em>\u201cMaking Disciples Together\u201d<\/em> inviting attendees to open up with their stories of challenge and change. Finding new ways to meaningfully engage the local community, managing escalating conversations in a digital world, sponsoring juvenile offenders, and working to translate Jesus and culture between the walls of the church and the world were just some of the ideas shared by laity and clergy.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere were comments and concerns for every program area and every geographical area of the Conference \u2013 no one need feel left out,\u201d shares Rosalee Mohney, lay leader for the Seattle District.
