Jars For Jamaa Letu
By Barbara Dadd Shaffer

FEATURES_HFCA_jarsThe “Jars” campaign is an annual collection taken between Easter and Annual Conference to support the two Jamaa Letu Orphanages, a ministry of The United Methodist Church in the city of Lubumbashi in southern Congo which PNW Conference has supported since 2000. More than 70 children and teens are in care.

The label is designed to be taped or glued to jars or cans. There are also some ideas for using the jars. Such as sending home labels with parishioners and inviting them to bring their donations in early June to a large jar (or two?) at the church.

This offering is typically observed in the time between Easter and Annual Conference. The funds are brought to Annual Conference (in a check, please) or sent to the PNW Conference treasurer’s office with other remittances.

Even as Lent begins, it’s time to think ahead to Eastertide and the annual time of receiving funds for two Jamaa Letu orphanages.
