The Pacific Northwest (PNW) Conference Office of Connectional Ministries is pleased to welcome Cindy Haverkamp as its new Communications Associate. In this part-time position, she will assist in telling the story of The United Methodist Church in the PNW Conference and across its global connection.

In this role Cindy will also support our creation care ministries, serving as a liaison for information, networking, training and resources for local churches to support a deepening awareness of and care for God’s creation.

Cindy joins our conference staff after a career as a teacher. Her undergraduate degree was in Education, with a major in English and a minor in Psychology. She has taught both middle and high school in Houston, Texas, and in the Vancouver, Vashon and Steilacoom school districts in Washington.

More recently, a call to ministry led her to pursue a degree from the School of Theology and Ministry at Seattle University. She graduated with a Master’s in Transformational Leadership in June.

A life-long learner, Cindy shares, “I am so grateful to be given the opportunity to grow my skills in reaching people’s hearts and minds here at the Pacific Northwest Conference!” The opportunity to help people in the church to tell their stories, coupled with the focus on creation care, is something she feels God has led her toward.

Cindy grew up in rural Pennsylvania where she was a member of Coventryville United Methodist Church. Cindy is a member of Vashon United Methodist Church, where she has served in every capacity from janitor to SPRC Chair. She also served for four years as the Lay Servant Director for the former Seattle District. Cindy currently attends church at Immanuel Presbyterian in Tacoma and lives in Steilacoom, WA with her husband, Rick, and her two teen daughters, Fiona and Brenna.

If you would like to send Cindy a word of welcome or make a connection, you can email her at chaverkamp@pnwumc.org or call her at 206.870.6821.

One of Cindy’s first projects will be to work alongside other conference staff to gather, collate, and produce the Conference Journal. If you are responsible for a portion of it, expect to hear from her soon.
