As Texas and Louisiana prepare for Hurricane Harvey, please join us in praying for those in the path of the storm. As you finish praying, and look towards action, consider the following message from Amy Fuselier, Director of Relief Supplies at the United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR)

“As we here at UMCOR prepare to provide assistance to those who need it most, I also ask for support of our efforts in building our inventory of relief supplies. At this time, we are in need of hygiene kits and cleaning buckets. With many potentially suffering damage to their homes from flood waters, our greatest need, is cleaning buckets. If there are opportunities for assistance, please encourage participation in this ministry. Kits can sent directly to Sager Brown or Depot West (LINK). Thank you all for your support.”

Jim Truitt, our UMVIM Disaster Response Coordinator for the Pacific Northwest Conference, adds this advice. “Given how far we are from the UMCOR depots, money would be the best choice. Both depots have access to bulk buys and discounts.” You can make a financial contribution to UMCOR’s disaster response efforts by giving to U.S. Disaster Relief, Advance #901670, or to Material Resources  Advance #901440, through your local church or directly through their website.

Whether you put together hygiene kits or cleaning buckets, take a collection to support our shared response through UMCOR, or spend some extra time in prayer for those caught in the path and for those who will respond, thank you!
