Sacred Play: A balance of Life and Ministry
A life of balance is not easy for clergy, and yet it is vitally important if we are to continue to do the sacred work of God in our churches, communities and world. Sacred play offers a way to restore balance and restore ourselves. We need play in order to remember who we are as children of God. Play allows us to spend time with God and loved ones in a context where we don’t have to be productive or perfect. During this retreat, we will explore societal views on play and what gets in the way of a healthy permission to engage in playful activities. We will find scriptures that support taking time to play. We will discover the benefits of play, learn what play is and what it isn’t, and experience four different types of play. This will be a time of thought-provoking discussion, but also laughter, fellowship and FUN! Come prepared to have a good time!
We will be led by Sue Magrath who is a spiritual director, retreat leader, and retired counselor specializing in the integration of spirituality and psychology. She received her Master of Counseling degree from Arizona State University in 1996 and completed the Upper Room’s two-year Academy for Spiritual Formation in 2007. She has also attended Source at the Center, a training program for spiritual directors in Orange, CA. Sue is passionate on the subject of clergy wellness and has led several workshops and retreats on this topic. Using a holistic approach, Sue blends her knowledge of psychology, Scripture, and spiritual practices to lead participants to a place of wholeness, growth, and renewal.
