Healing the Ravaged Soul
May 7, 2016 @ 10:00 am - 12:00 pm
Bear Creek UMC in Woodinville is hosting a community discussion on the topic of child sexual abuse, specifically regarding the spiritual impact on survivors.
This event will take place Saturday, May 7th, from 10 AM to 12 PM, and all are welcome. Sue Magrath, author of Healing the Ravaged Soul: Tending the Spiritual Wounds of Child Sexual Abuse, will speak from her many years as a psychotherapist and spiritual director working with the adult survivors of sexual abuse. She will address the shame, abandonment, fear and anger that are often experienced in the aftermath, making it problematic for survivors to attend church or develop any sense of a loving God who is present to them in their difficulties. We will also discuss the ways in which the church’s unwillingness to address this issue exacerbates the problem.
This event would be of benefit for survivors, their families, and any professionals whose work leads them to walk beside those whose lives were impacted by child sexual abuse, such as clergy, Stephen Ministers, spiritual directors, chaplains, and therapists. Magrath will make her book available to purchase at the end of the event.
