Greater NW Bishop’s Symposium

In less than a week there will be over 310 clergy gathering for the first Greater Northwest Bishop’s Symposium. The sign up for Tuesday afternoon adventure is still open and will remain open until Monday evening. So far 118 folks have signed up for an activity which leaves about 200 of you who haven’t selected yet. Below is the link that will take you to the options. Some activities have filled up, but many remain.
THEME: Wesleyan Discipleship and Small Groups
KEYNOTE PRESENTER: Dr. Kevin Watson, Assistant Professor of Wesleyan and Methodist Studies, The Candler School of Theology, Emory University. Author of The Class Meeting: Reclaiming a Forgotten (and Essential) Small Group Experience.
The 2015 Bishop Symposium is a joint event with both the Oregon-Idaho and Pacific Northwest Conference. The event is October 26-28, 2015 at the Red Lion at the Quay in Vancouver, Washington. Participants will need to make their own lodging arrangements directly with the hotel. There is a direct link to our room block in your confirmation email which you will receive after completing this registration. Funds for this event are available through the Board of Ordained Ministry. For PNW, download, complete and submit the form as indicated. For OR-ID pick up a reimbursement form at the end of the event and return with receipts to Becky Delurey at the Conference Office who will work with John Tucker of BOM to process them.
We are excited to have Dr. Kevin M. Watson as our guest speaker. He is Assistant Professor of Wesleyan and Methodist Studies at Candler School of Theology, Emory University. Watson is an ordained elder in The United Methodist Church. He has written several books that seek to help contemporary Wesleyan/Methodist communities reclaim a distinctly Wesleyan approach to Christian discipleship and small group formation.
The theme and focus of the event will be on Wesleyan Class meetings. Plenary sessions will include the following topics and will be presented in a combination of large group lectures with small group experience.

- Small Group Dynamics 101
FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE for this event is available for clergy and local pastors through your conference Board of Ordained Ministry. Lay assigned should contact their District Superintendent to discuss options.
PNW: Download, complete, and submit the Continuing Education Funds Application as indicated and return to Rev. Cheryl A. Fear, 5060 Hannegan Road, Bellingham, WA 98226. Applicants must secure the signature of their SPR chair and talk to the DS about attending the symposium as part of their continuing education requirement, and posting it to their annual report to their District Superintendent. The amount of continuing education credits is being determined.
