SUMMARY:Stories of the Pastorhood - Puget Sound Clergy Day Apart
DESCRIPTION:  \n \n  \nAll clergy under appointment in the new Puget Sound Missional District are invited to a unique gathering together on Wednesday\, January 23. This day will be full of story telling\, celebration\, collaboration\, truth telling and deep listening to each other. We’ll reflect on our generational differences and similarities. We’ll explore the idea that we are a pastorhood together. This day will not necessarily be about learning new content. Our goal is that we’ll emerge more connected to each other with a deeper sense of trust and friendship. We believe in those kinds of relationships\, the Spirit gets more room to work in and through us! \nWant to follow this event on Facebook\, click HERE \nRegister Now by Click HERE!

SUMMARY:CANCELLED: Indianola Young Adult Social Justice Retreat
DESCRIPTION:“What does the Lord require of you but to do justice\, to love kindness\, and to walk humbly with your God.”\n-Micah 6:8\n\nWhat is your part in changing the world?\nDo you feel overwhelmed by injustice you see in the news? Ever feel helpless and lost when looking for ways to make a difference in the world? \nWe all have our part to play\, and as followers of Christ\, we feel the burden of pain and hardship in the world around us. Our communities\, country\, and world should be places of peace\, justice\, and thriving for everyone. Sometimes the challenges can feel so big and our abilities so small. But you can be a part of addressing major social challenges and moving the Gospel forward in the lives of those around you. \nJoin us Saturday\, Jan 19\, 2pm – Monday\, Jan 21\, 11am\nWe’ll be joined by Lyda Pierce\, Director of Hispanic & Latino Ministries for the Pacific Northwest United Methodist Conference\, as we explore social justice through the lens of Christian faith. Break-out sessions will help you get involved in your own community and apply Lyda’s wisdom. \nCost: $80 \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n“The United Methodist Church believes God’s love for the world is an active and engaged love\, a love seeking justice and liberty. We cannot just be observers. So we care enough about people’s lives to risk interpreting God’s love\, to take a stand\, to call each of us into a response\, no matter how controversial or complex. The church helps us think and act out a faith perspective\, not just responding to all the other ‘mind-makers-up’ that exist in our society.”\n-The Book of Resolutions of The United Methodist Church 2016\n\n

SUMMARY:CrossOver Year Kick-Off
DESCRIPTION:Bishop Elaine JW Stanovsky is inviting us all on a year-long exploration of the Bible and faith centered around the book\, We Make the Road by Walking by Brian McLaren. Participants will receive weekly blog posts to expand their study\, with reflections and prayers. \nThe study will begin on December 2\, 2018 but there is no penalty for joining in at a later date. \nThis CrossOver year is one where The United Methodist Church will make some important decisions about the type of church it wants to be. A Special Session of the General Conference\, which will be held in February of 2019 in St. Louis\, has been called to help the church to resolve long-held disagreements over the full inclusion of LGBTQ+ people in the life of the church. \nYou can learn more about the CrossOver Year study by clicking HERE. \nYou can sign up for the Cross-Over Blog by clicking HERE. \nYou can learn more about the 2019 Special Session of the General Conference HERE. \n

SUMMARY:Radical Compassion Training
DESCRIPTION:Consider attending the upcoming Jesus’ Way of Radical Compassion: Training of Three-Fold Compassion Facilitators Event on Friday and Saturday\, November 30 and December 1\, 2018 at Portland First United Methodist Church\, Portland\, OR 97201. \nClick here to register now!\nThis three-part training is presented by Dr. Frank Rogers of The Center for Engaged Compassion (CEC) and the Claremont School of Theology. This is the first of three retreats that will include online and individual work between the face-to-face sessions. The training will focus on the teachings\, practices and skills necessary to lead retreats\, workshops\, and congregational events rooted in the CEC’s approach to three-fold compassion. \nThe CEC’s approach to three-fold compassion is rooted in the spiritual path of Jesus and deepens persons’ experience of being loved by an extravagantly compassionate sacred presence\, cultivates a healing and restoring self-compassion\, and increases capacities to extend compassion to others\, including those who suffer\, those who are outcast\, and those with whom we are in enmity. \n“For me\, participating in the Compassion in Practice training has been a powerful combination of finding spaces in myself that I’d ignored for years and giving permission to sweep out the cobwebs and reclaim what was lost as well as connecting with a source of sacredness that surrounds and envelopes me in unexpected ways each time I engage with the material and others in the workshops. The compassion practices are an integral resource for practicing and leading times of reflection and grounding.” Lydia Henry\, Columbia District Lay Leader\, Oregon-Idaho Annual Conference \nThis is the second cohort of persons to be trained in the CEC’s process for radical compassion in the Greater Northwest Area.
