DESCRIPTION:Register today for the first ‘Laity Meet-Up’ on April 6 \n“Let us consider how to provoke one another to love and good works\, not neglecting to meet together\, as is the habit of some\, but encouraging one another …” [Hebrews 10:24-25] \nAll laypersons from the Greater Northwest Area are invited to a new laity series named “The Laity Meet-Up\,” which kicks off on Saturday\, April 6. The free event will be held via Zoom at 9 a.m. AT | 10 a.m. PT | 11 a.m. MT. \nClick here to register for this Zoom event. Upon registration\, you will receive the link directly from Zoom. If you don’t see it\, please check your spam or junk folders. \nThe Laity Meet-Up\, which will be held three to four times per year\, aims to enhance lay ministries by equipping and empowering laity to be active and informed voices in our churches and communities – one of the express goals of Bishop Bridgeforth’s “going the M.I.L.E.”* \nIn the inaugural event on April 6\, the Meet-Up topic will be: “Today’s UMC: What Laity Need to Know About General Conference.” A panel of General Conference delegates and reserves will provide accurate information about proposed legislation\, squelch disinformation\, and share suggestions for communicating what General Conference is really about (and what it is not). To be discussed: removing harmful language from the Book of Discipline\, revising church structure\, updating the Social Principles\, and more! \nThe Laity Meet-Up is the brainchild of the Greater Northwest Area’s three conference lay leaders: Jo Anne Hayden of Alaska\, Nancy Tam Davis of Pacific Northwest\, and Paul Nickell of Oregon-Idaho. It is inspired by their reading of Hebrews 10\, which unveils the inadequacy of Old Testament sacrifices and upholds Christ’s sacrifice as the ultimate and final atonement for sins. It guides believers on their faith journey\, emphasizing the importance of community and perseverance. \nWhile designed for laity across the Alaska\, Pacific Northwest\, and Oregon-Idaho conferences\, The Laity Meet-Up’s gatherings are open to all.

DESCRIPTION:Sue Magrath and Zach Taylor are offering a virtual Advanced Boundary Training on subsequent Thursday afternoons in April and May to fulfill the boundary requirement for all pastoral leaders under appointment or assignment. The dates are April 25th and May 2nd\, 2024 from 1 PM to 4 PM PST. Attendance at both sessions is mandatory. Sue Magrath will be leading the first of the two sessions on April 25th; Zach Taylor will be assisting Sue in leading the second session on May 2nd. \nThe advanced training is for pastoral leaders who have already participated in one or more boundary workshops in the past. Hotel Captain Cook offers the option of adding three additional days before or after our gathering if you’d like to extend your stay and take the opportunity to see more of Alaska. \nWe’re excited about this chance to “Get Together” at the Captain Cook Hotel in Anchorage on May 9-11\, 2024. (pre-events start May 8\, 2024). Our theme\, “Get Together\,” is centered in John 13:34\, and all the jurisdictions share it. This theme feels especially relevant after having to cancel the 2020 in-person event and move to online only. After eight years\, our team is eager to gather in person\, as we’re sure you are! The central purpose of this event is to elect women who will represent our jurisdiction as National Board of Director members. In addition\, we will worship\, celebrate\, share\, serve\, learn\, sing\, pray and connect. \nThe past several years of planning have been unusually challenging due to the pandemic. Still\, our team is delighted with how well the many aspects of our event have come together to showcase our values and priorities while also highlighting the rich diversity and many cultures of Alaska. We’re honored to have Amy Valdez Barker\, PhD as our keynote speaker and Makeda McCreary as our music director. This will also be an opportunity to meet Sally Vonner\, our new General Secretary/CEO\, and our President\, ‘Ainise ‘Isama’u. DESCRIPTION:Organized by PNW clergy\, this retreat is open to anyone in GNW who identifies as female or gender nonbinary and is in ministry (this includes candidates for ministry). Unsure if this includes you? It does if you want it to!  The sessions will begin on Thursday evening and go through Saturday mid-morning. \nOur keynote speaker will be Ann Mayer\, MDiv.\, and her sessions will be about experiencing rest while serving in ministry. Other sessions will include practical information about tools for restoration\, tools such as therapy\, and spiritual direction.
