DESCRIPTION:The Pacific Northwest Conference is offering Advanced Boundary Training on Thursdays\, April 27 and May 4\, from 1:30-4:30pm each day over Zoom. This class is advanced training for clergy who have previously participated in one or more boundary workshops. Rev. Dr. Denise McGuiness will facilitate the training\, which fulfills the boundary requirement for clergy. \nThe class involves discussion of case studies prepared by the participants. These need to be prepared prior to the training\, based on a personal experience related to boundary issues. Please describe the incident\, your actions\, the outcome\, and what you learned and/or might have done differently. This study should be typed out and e-mailed to the presenter before the first training so that it can be forwarded to all participants prior to the training.  Please submit this to the presenter at least one week prior to the class. Details are as follows: \nRev. SUMMARY:Stop Hate and Side with Love Community Vigil
DESCRIPTION:Edmonds United Methodist Church is hosting a community vigil\, “We Side with Love\,” on May 2 at 6:00 pm in response to the hate-filled incidents at two regional churches. In solidarity with our LGBTQIA+ siblings\, the vigil is a space for collective lament and a collective call to stop the spread of hate and all forms of bigotry. \nVigil speakers include Snohomish County Executive Dave Somers\, State Senator Manaka Dhingra\, Edmonds Mayor Mike Nelson\, and other elected officials in King and Snohomish Counties. Additional speakers include Courtney Wooten\, Chair\, Snohomish Co. Human Rights Commission\, Washington State Poet Laureate Luna Lyte\, and Mitch Hunter from Gen Pride. Other faith leaders and LGBTQIA+ organizations will speak and offer words of inspiration and hope. \nAdvocacy and outreach organizations will be on hand at the event\, including Faith Action Network\, Gen Pride\, Edmonds Neighborhood Action Coalition\, Edmonds Diversity Commission\, Under the Rainbow\, and the Edmonds UMC Racial Justice Team. \nThe Edmonds Police and Kirkland Police Departments are working together to find and stop the individual or group behind this effort. \nTuesday’s event at 6 pm will be held at Edmonds United Methodist Church\, 828 Caspers Street\, Edmonds\, WA (425) 778-2119. \nEdmonds UMC is a reconciling faith community. More details TBA. \nThe sole purpose of this Special Session is to affirm or not affirm the church conference actions of local churches that are choosing to ask to disaffiliate from The United Methodist Church under the provisions of The Book of Discipline 2016\, Paragraph 2553. The Board of Trustees will present negotiated settlements that cannot be amended. The members of Annual Conference will affirm or not affirm the agreements by a simple majority vote. \nThe Special Session will be held on Zoom and will require registration for voting credentials. Registration and further information regarding the session and its business will be sent to the persons to be seated at the special session of the Annual Conference and posted on the conference website by April 15\, 2023. \nThe voting membership of the special session will consist of the clergy members of the annual conference as defined in ¶32 of the Book of Discipline and the lay members of the June 2022 Annual Conference (lay member or alternate\, whoever was last seated in the June annual conference) in accordance with the Book of Discipline ¶602.5.1 \n1 No local charge will be deprived of its lay member due to death\, serious illness\, or cessation of membership. Under such circumstances\, another lay member may be elected by the charge conference (¶602.5). If your charge is affected\, please contact Rev. Shirley DeLarme\, the Conference Secretary.

DESCRIPTION:Can We Affect the Housing Problem? \nThe lack of affordable housing throughout the country is well documented. But what\, if anything\, can churches do to make a difference? If you want to be a part of the affordable housing solution but don’t know where to start or what to do\, you are invited to a workshop entitled “Housing 101” on May 10 from 1-3 pm PST on Zoom. This invitation is to the entire Greater Northwest Episcopal Area. \nThis workshop is being hosted by Wesley UMC in Yakima and led by Pastor Shane Moore and Marty Miller. Marty Miller is the executive director of the Office of Rural and Farmworker Housing (ORFH) in Yakima. Marty has been with ORFH for over 20 years and brings wide expertise on the issues of affordable housing. DESCRIPTION:Advanced Boundaries Training for Pastoral Leaders offered online this summer\nThe Pacific Northwest Conference is offering Advanced Boundary Training on Thursdays\, July 27 and August 3\, from 1:00-4:00 pm each day over Zoom. This class is advanced training for clergy who have previously participated in one or more boundary workshops in the past; the course fee is $25. Rev. Kathy Morse will facilitate the training\, which fulfills the boundary requirement for clergy. \nThe class involves discussion of case studies prepared by the participants. These need to be prepared prior to the training\, based on a personal experience related to boundary issues. Please describe the incident\, your actions\, the outcome\, and what you learned and/or might have done differently. DESCRIPTION:There are always one or two people in your congregation who know exactly how to push your buttons\, alienate others and make even the most innocuous meeting agenda go suddenly awry.  Learn about the personality disorders that are often behind people’s bad behavior and how you can become more effective in dealing with them. While we will be addressing clinical material\, the emphasis is not on diagnosis but on recognizing patterns of behavior and understanding the motivation behind them.  Through understanding\, you can begin to take your encounters with such people less personally.  This restores balance to your interactions and enables you to set healthy boundaries that protect you from hurtful behavior. \nThis event will take place over Zoom on Tuesday\, August 15th from 1-4pm.
