SUMMARY:Advanced Boundary Training (Session 2 of 2)
DESCRIPTION:Sue Magrath and Zach Taylor are offering a virtual Advanced Boundary Training on subsequent Thursday afternoons in April and May to fulfill the boundary requirement for clergy. The dates are April 25th and May 2nd\, 2024 from 1 PM to 4 PM PST. Attendance at both sessions is mandatory. Sue Magrath will be leading the first of the two sessions on April 25th; Zach Taylor will be assisting Sue in leading the second session on May 2nd. The advanced training is for clergy who have already participated in one or more boundary workshops in the past. The class involves discussion of case studies prepared by the participants. Case studies should be prepared in advance in a Word document and sent to the presenter a week prior to the first session. They should be based on a pastoral situation the attendee experienced in which boundary issues were a significant factor. Please describe the incident\, your actions\, the outcome\, and what you learned and/or might have done differently. Please submit this to the presenter at least one week prior to the class. Send the case studies to Sue Magrath (suemagrath@msn.com) and Zach Taylor (pastorzacharytaylor@gmail.com). Cost is $25 per person. DESCRIPTION:In-Person and Livestream | Free and open to the public \nThird Act Washington presents author\, educator and environmental activist Bill McKibben on July 2 at 7:00pm in a talk about what’s needed now to save our planet and democracy\, what’s bringing him joy and gives him hope\, and why he believes Third Act can have a huge impact on making our world a better place for all of us\, and for generations to come. \nBill is renowned for mobilizing popular support for action on climate justice and democracy.  He has authored 20 books\, including The End of Nature (1989) which is regarded as the first book for a general audience about climate change. He also helped found 350.org\, the first global grassroots climate campaign\, which has organized protests on every continent\, including Antarctica\, for climate action.  In 2022 he founded Third Act\, a national organization with over 70\,000 members that organizes people over the age of 60 for action on climate\, justice\, and democracy. \nBill will give a call to action to inspire and motivate attendees to take stepped-up action on climate and democracy\, especially in the face of intensified climate disruption\, political polarization and backlash\, and our democracy in peril. DESCRIPTION:As a layperson\, do you find yourself responsible for leading worship? Do you need help with worship resources? Would you like to learn skills to enhance worship leadership in your small church? If so\, these worship workshops are for you! \nThe Pacific Northwest (PNW) Conference has invited Dr. Marcia McFee to lead three workshops over the next several months to empower laity to become more effective in worship planning and leading. Bitesize mindset and skillset lessons will be taught\, which can add flavor to your worship. Resources for each liturgical season will also be shared. \n\nAugust 16-18\, 2024 – Advent / Christmas / Epiphany – held in (and live-streamed from) Spokane Valley UMC\, Spokane Valley\, WA\nJanuary 10-12\, 2025 – Lent / Holy Week / Easter – held in (and live-streamed from) First UMC\, Olympia\, WA\nMay 2-4\, 2025 – Ordinary Time – held in (and live-streamed from) Wesley UMC\, Yakima\, WA\nAn orientation will be held on Wednesday\, July 31st at 9 a.m. PT\, a recording of which will also be available\n\nWhile these workshops are offered with laypersons in mind\, pastors of small churches are especially invited to attend with their laity.
