DESCRIPTION:Join Beacon United Methodist Church’s Crossroads Vespers service on April 15 at 1 p.m. for a special screening of “Migrant Women Rise: Stories of Red-Tagged Overseas Filipino Workers.” \nThey will be joined by the producer of the film Deaconess Joyous Prim\, a United Methodist Missionary serving as a welfare case officer with migrant workers in Hong Kong and convener of the International Coalition for Human Rights in the Philippines-Hong Kong. The church will also host a discussion with local organizers and Deaconess Joyous after the film. \nABOUT THE FILM:\n\n\n\n\nAmidst the COVID-19 pandemic\, overseas Filipino workers in Hong Kong risk their lives and reputations as they speak out against the anti-people policies of the Philippine government. SUMMARY:Artist-theologian Julian Davis Reid brings notes of rest to Seattle
DESCRIPTION:The Well welcomes artist/theologian Julian Davis Reid to Seattle on April 20\, 7-9:30 PM for a workshop called Notes of Rest: Sabbath and Our Ancestors. Sabbath and Our Ancestors will explore the rhythms of work and rest that we have inherited\, how they have made their home in our bodies\, and how we might discern what to honor and relinquish and what to elevate and bring to life once more. \nNotes of Rest is a spiritual formation ministry grounded in scripture and black music that helps the body of Christ receive God’s gift of rest. It is a practice of contemplation and creativity that moves us toward the rest we were created to receive. This workshop – Sabbath and Our Ancestors – will use music\, teaching\, and interaction to explore how we carry in our bodies patterns of work and rest inherited from our ancestors. As we explore how some patterns helped our ancestors survive\, we will ask how those patterns serve us today. And\, what from our ancestors – familial and spiritual – have been buried deep inside of us and yearns to be released and given life? \nJulian Davis Reid is a pianist\, producer\, and composer with a focus on jazz\, electronic music\, and gospel. He is a founding member of the jazz-electronic fusion group The JuJu Exchange (in partnership with Grammy Award winner Nico Segal and drummer-inventor Nova Zaii). Julian holds a B.A from Yale University and an M.Div. degree from Candler School of Theology at Emory University. Julian and his wife live in Chicago. \nScholarships are available if the ticket price is a hindrance to attendance. We charge to offset costs\, but we never believe that cost should keep someone from attending our public engagements. Call us or email us if you need financial relief to attend. \nTickets are available for $15 via Brown Paper Tickets: https://juliandavisreid.bpt.me/

DESCRIPTION:Details\n\n\n\nIt’s a new day and leadership has never been more challenging\, exciting and frustrating. What does the post-pandemic church look like? How will we lean into new opportunities? Where are we headed in this challenging time? What will the ministry look like on the other side? Come to Boise and join our three newest Bishops in the Western Jurisdiction for a time of dreaming\, visioning\, and strategizing as we write the next chapter together. \nThe Northwest Leadership Institute’s goals are to gather leaders to think\, dream\, worship and connect as we together find the path forward. Plan now to be present for this historic exciting time. \nWe have many options for you to be present. You can be present in-person or you can opt-in to be present online and skip the travel. We will work to make both experiences positive. \nI am excited to join you in April for this amazing time. \n“You were born for such a time as this.” Esther 4:14 \nGrace and peace.\nRev Dr. Duane A Anders (He\, Him\, His)\nCathedral of the Rockies\, Boise FUMC \n\nClick here to learn more and register.

SUMMARY:Empowered by Grace: Disability Justice and Theology 35 years after the ADA
DESCRIPTION:The Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) –the historic civil rights law which protects the rights of disabled people –was signed into law on July 26\, 1990. This landmark legislation improved access\, made discrimination against disabled people illegal\, and transformed our systems to become more inclusive. Churches\, however\, fought hard and successfully for exemption from the ADA. \nIn celebration of the 35th anniversary\, in recognition of July as Disability Pride month\, and in an effort to lament and repent of religious ableism\, Bothell UMC and the PNW Disability Ministries Committee are hosting this multi-day conference. You are invited to join us for practical\, justice-oriented workshops; for worship\, fellowship\, and a documentary screening; and for a keynote talk on Becoming Accomplices for Disability Justice. \nWebsite: https://www.bothellumc.org/empowered-by-grace-2025  \nRegistration: https://bothellumc.breezechms.com/form/303550 \nFB Event: https://www.facebook.com/share/1HQHWSf6EZ/

SUMMARY:AIDNW Presents a Performance of “The Detention Lottery” An Immersive Theater Experience
DESCRIPTION:Hundreds of thousands of immigrants move through the federal detention system each year. The larger detention centers\, such as the one in Tacoma\, have their own courts. But little is known about what happens behind closed doors where cameras are not allowed. Seattle playwright Margaret O’Donnell believed a play was the only way to share what those inside—from the detainees to the guards—experience every day. \nAn immersive theater experience\, suitable for middle-school children and older. The play offers a rare\, unfiltered look into the realities of America’s immigration courts – spaces typically closed to the public and even to family members. We hear desperate conversations between attorneys and their clients\, and life-and-death decisions made in a traffic court setting. \nThis play is presented by Advocates for Immigrants in Detention Northwest (AIDNW) in collaboration with the Wallingford United Methodist Church. \nDonation accepted at the door (suggested donation $20). No one turned away for lack of funds. Join us. (For more about the author: https://odonnellplaywright.com/)

SUMMARY:What to Expect in the Appointment Process
DESCRIPTION:Whether your church is a clear opening that’s expecting a new pastor on July 1\, 2026\, or you’re just curious about the seemingly mysterious appointment process that the cabinet uses\, SPRC leaders from every church are invited to learn more about it. Columbia and Sage districts in the Oregon-Idaho Conference ran a pilot version of this webinar in January 2025. It was so helpful to participants that we are using it throughout Oregon-Idaho and the Pacific Northwest Conferences this coming January. \nWho: Members of the SPRC (Staff Parish Relations Committee or equivalent leaders at churches with a single board structure) are invited to this webinar. Churches that have clear openings (due to receive a new pastor on July 1\, 2026) are expected to have at least two SPRC members who participate in these sessions. If you believe your pastor’s appointment may change\, attending would be an excellent and proactive step. \nWhat: A 90-minute Zoom meeting with superintendents who will describe the appointment process\, including the roles of the superintendent\, SPRC chair\, SPRC members\, and the new pastor. \nWhen/Where: The same information is being offered at two different times; you can choose which fits your schedule.  *Zoom links will be emailed to Churches and SPRC chairs in January. \n\nTuesday\, Jan. 13\, 6:30 p.m. PT / 7:30 p.m. MT\nSaturday\, Jan. 24\, 9 a.m. PT / 10 a.m. MT\n\nWhy: Since most churches don’t regularly participate in the appointment process\, it’s normal to have many questions. Superintendents will be answering those questions—many of them before you even ask—during these Zoom sessions. Participants will receive all the information they need to work confidently with the superintendent during a time of uncertainty and anticipated transition.

SUMMARY:Climate Justice and the Right to Food
DESCRIPTION:The impact of climate change on poor rural households is already staggeringly high. What to do? One approach is to tackle the issue in terms of the “Right to Food.” Other approaches include innovative strategies the United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR) has developed in the context of disaster recovery and climate risk reduction. \nAll are invited to a Climate Justice related Lunch & Learn after worship on UMCOR Sunday\, March 15th\, hosted by the Climate Justice Working Group at Seattle First. Dan Gustafson\, a member who is the former Deputy Director-General of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations will present. \nA Zoom option is available for people and congregations that would like to attend but can’t make it in person due to the distance. Parking in Seattle First’s garage is also free for attending the event. \nThose who plan to attend are invited to register here ahead of time so that Seattle First knows how much food to prepare. If you register to attend via Zoom\, the link will be sent upon registration.
