SUMMARY:Earthkeepers Training with a Spanish Track
DESCRIPTION:Are you passionate about caring for the environment and looking for a way to connect your faith with action? The United Methodist EarthKeepers program offers training for individuals ready to launch or grow environmental projects in their communities. \nWatch and share a short invitation on Facebook from Rev. Jenny Phillips\, PNW Elder and Director of Environmental Sustainability for Global Ministries. \nParticipants gain tools for spiritual reflection\, community organizing\, and project planning—all through a United Methodist lens. Whether your interest is in energy efficiency\, sustainable food\, environmental justice\, or creation-focused worship\, EarthKeepers equips you to make a lasting impact. \nThere will be a Spanish language track for this training. \nDates and Times: Training begins October 2 at 4pm PT and ends October 5\, 2025 at 1pm PT. Pre-training homework will be provided on September 12. \nLocation: Wesley Homes and Des Moines First UMC in Des Moines\, WA\, a short train ride from Sea-Tac Airport. \nLodging and Meals: Sheraton Four Points\, Des Moines\, WA. Global Ministries will cover the cost of single lodging on the nights of October 2\, 3\, and 4. Global Ministries will provide vegetarian meals starting with dinner on October 2 and ending with lunch on October 5. \nTravel: Participants are responsible for their transportation from their homes to the training location. DESCRIPTION:Lay Pastoral Care Giving offers insights into the life span and the dynamics of contemporary life\, helping church leaders reach out with God’s love and care to others. Expressing care to someone in need\, whether within the community of faith or beyond\, may seem the most natural thing in the world. For some\, it is\, for others\, it’s less so. All can improve. \nThe course is being offered online this October (Thursdays and Tuesdays\, 6 to 8 PM PDT) for those interested in taking the next step in their exploration. The instructor is Billie Fitzsimmons\, a Certified Lay Minister. \nWhile the course is offered for those who register at no cost\, participants must secure a copy of the Lay Pastoral Care Giving Participant’s Book (ISBN • 978-0-88177-554-9) by Tim. DESCRIPTION:Whether your church is a clear opening that’s expecting a new pastor on July 1\, 2026\, or you’re just curious about the seemingly mysterious appointment process that the cabinet uses\, SPRC leaders from every church are invited to learn more about it. Columbia and Sage districts in the Oregon-Idaho Conference ran a pilot version of this webinar in January 2025. It was so helpful to participants that we are using it throughout Oregon-Idaho and the Pacific Northwest Conferences this coming January. \nWho: Members of the SPRC (Staff Parish Relations Committee or equivalent leaders at churches with a single board structure) are invited to this webinar. Churches that have clear openings (due to receive a new pastor on July 1\, 2026) are expected to have at least two SPRC members who participate in these sessions. If you believe your pastor’s appointment may change\, attending would be an excellent and proactive step. \nWhat: A 90-minute Zoom meeting with superintendents who will describe the appointment process\, including the roles of the superintendent\, SPRC chair\, SPRC members\, and the new pastor. \nWhen/Where: The same information is being offered at two different times; you can choose which fits your schedule.  *Zoom links will be emailed to Churches and SPRC chairs in January. \n\nTuesday\, Jan. 13\, 6:30 p.m. PT / 7:30 p.m. MT\nSaturday\, Jan. 24\, 9 a.m. PT / 10 a.m. MT\n\nWhy: Since most churches don’t regularly participate in the appointment process\, it’s normal to have many questions. She holds in MFA from the Bennington Writing Seminars\, and is author of several volumes of poetry\, among them Crossing the Sea and Texts to the Holy. She teaches at the intersection of creative life and spiritual life. She serves Congregation Beth Israel of the Berkshires\, and lives in western Massachusetts with her son. \nEMBRACING HOPELESSNESS: LAMENT\, CRITIQUE\, & ESPERANZA\nPresenter Juan Carlos Huertas is committed to practices that move communities to liberation through shared wisdom\, communal leadership\, and contextual action.
