SUMMARY:Know Your Rights Training
DESCRIPTION:Join the Western Jurisdiction on November 2 (1-3 PM PST) for a Know Your Rights training with the Immigration Law & Justice Network. \nOur immigrant communities continue to face uncertainty and quickly shifting policies\, and our churches are called to respond with compassion and tangible support. This Know Your Rights training will offer practical immigration information and resources for clergy and lay leaders across the Western Jurisdiction. Confirmed presenters Alba Jaramillo and Melissa Bo of the Immigration Law & Justice Network will share best practices for churches accompanying immigrant communities. \nThe session will explore the church as sanctuary and safe spaces\, including rights related to church property and connecting with partner organizations to increase the reach of our response. Participants will learn how to develop congregational protocols and react in the case of ICE activity. Presenters will also address Temporary Protected Status concerns\, including issues affecting Haitian communities\, and time will be set aside for Q&A. \nWe are committed to making this training accessible to all. SUMMARY:Lay Servant Ministries: Living Our United Methodist Beliefs (United Methodist Heritage)
DESCRIPTION:Lay Servants who have completed the Basic Course are invited to participate in this five-week class on living our United Methodist beliefs\, led by Nancy Goddard\, CLM\, from October 19 – November 16\, 2026. The class will be held on Zoom on Mondays from 6:00-8:00 PM. This class is worth 1 CEU and counts toward either Lay Servant or Lay Speaker Certification. It is also a prerequisite for Certified Lay Minister Modules. \nThis course will explore the special gifts of theology\, witness\, and organization that The UMC brings to the church universal\, how we got where we are today\, and how our distinctive emphases are still needed in the 21st-century church.
