DESCRIPTION:Be ready for when the next disaster strikes to help those most in need. \nTrain now to be an Early Response Team member. \nOur next UMCOR Disaster Response – Early Response Team Basic Training is being offered on Saturday\, October 25\, 2025\, from 8:30 a.m. – 5 p.m. PT at Faith Church – Issaquah\, WA (3924 Issaquah-Pine Lake Rd SE\, Issaquah\, WA 98029). \nThe Early Response Team Basic Training will prepare you on ways to clean out a flooded home\, haul debris\, sift through ashes and work alongside survivors while staying safe. The class is taught by United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR) certified trainers and includes examples of recent missions\, hands-on activities and an opportunity to meet people with a passion to serve. SUMMARY:Earthkeepers Training with a Spanish Track
DESCRIPTION:Are you passionate about caring for the environment and looking for a way to connect your faith with action? The United Methodist EarthKeepers program offers training for individuals ready to launch or grow environmental projects in their communities. \nWatch and share a short invitation on Facebook from Rev. Jenny Phillips\, PNW Elder and Director of Environmental Sustainability for Global Ministries. \nParticipants gain tools for spiritual reflection\, community organizing\, and project planning—all through a United Methodist lens. Whether your interest is in energy efficiency\, sustainable food\, environmental justice\, or creation-focused worship\, EarthKeepers equips you to make a lasting impact. \nThere will be a Spanish language track for this training. \nDates and Times: Training begins October 2 at 4pm PT and ends October 5\, 2025 at 1pm PT. Pre-training homework will be provided on September 12. \nLocation: Wesley Homes and Des Moines First UMC in Des Moines\, WA\, a short train ride from Sea-Tac Airport. \nLodging and Meals: Sheraton Four Points\, Des Moines\, WA. Global Ministries will cover the cost of single lodging on the nights of October 2\, 3\, and 4. Global Ministries will provide vegetarian meals starting with dinner on October 2 and ending with lunch on October 5. \nTravel: Participants are responsible for their transportation from their homes to the training location. DESCRIPTION:In May\, the Western Jurisdiction is providing a webinar to prepare members to learn about the four proposed amendments to our United Methodist Constitution. \nThis year’s Annual Conference gatherings require votes that impact our worldwide connection\, and we want you to be informed and involved. Your participation matters! \nAt the General Conference 2020/2024 meeting\, four pieces of legislation passed that would change the denomination’s constitution. In order for these changes to go into effect\, the legislation must be ratified by the collective votes of annual and central conferences of the UMC. Throughout 2025\, all central and annual conferences will be asked to vote on these important topics at their Annual Conference meetings. \nThe four pieces for ratification are: \n\nBallot #1: Regionalization: Changing the structure of the UMC to create equity across the worldwide church.\nBallot #2: Expand inclusiveness in church membership\, especially as it relates to gender and ability.\nBallot #3: Stand against racism and colonialism.\nBallot #4: Clarify local pastor status regarding who can vote for clergy delegates.\n\nUnderstanding these amendments is crucial as we move forward together\, as each will impact how we operate as a global church. DESCRIPTION:Lay Servants who have completed the Basic Course are invited to participate in this five-week class on discovering and using your spiritual gifts\, led by Rev. DESCRIPTION:As a layperson\, do you find yourself responsible for leading worship? Do you need help with worship resources? Would you like to learn skills to enhance worship leadership in your small church? If so\, these worship workshops are for you! \nThe Pacific Northwest (PNW) Conference has invited Dr. Marcia McFee to lead three workshops over the next several months to empower laity to become more effective in worship planning and leading. Bitesize mindset and skillset lessons will be taught\, which can add flavor to your worship. Resources for each liturgical season will also be shared. \n\nAugust 16-18\, 2024 – Advent / Christmas / Epiphany – held in (and live-streamed from) Spokane Valley UMC\, Spokane Valley\, WA\nJanuary 10-12\, 2025 – Lent / Holy Week / Easter – held in (and live-streamed from) First UMC\, Olympia\, WA\nMay 3\, 2025 – Ordinary Time – held in (and live-streamed from) Wesley UMC\, Yakima\, WA\nAn orientation will be held on Wednesday\, July 31st at 9 a.m. PT\, a recording of which will also be available\n\nWhile these workshops are offered with laypersons in mind\, pastors of small churches are especially invited to attend with their laity.
