SUMMARY:A Fresh Start at Riverton Park – A New Beginning Celebration!
DESCRIPTION:Riverton Park UMC invites you to join them as they celebrate their new beginning in deepening service with their neighbors. \nThe church has faithfully provided emergency and long-term housing\, as well as a food bank and a location for cooking meals. Now\, they’re planning to put permanent tent pads in place\, refurbish a garage to be used as an emergency shelter\, and repair and replace their single shower. \nView RPUMC’s Project list. \nProject Coordinator\, the Rev. Steve London\, invites you to join the church and their neighbors in celebrating this new beginning. Visitors are welcome to view this project and hear an explanation of the future plans to be made. Then\, a southern style lunch will be served. If you plan to attend\, please contact Steve London at stevelondo@msn.com so he knows how many to cook for! \nRiverton Park is applying to be a United Methodist Volunteers In Mission (UMVIM)site. Much more building and refurbishing is needed. \n\nIf you are interested in bringing a team for work on-site\, contact UMVIM Coordinator Wendy Riddle at wriddle56@gmail.com.

SUMMARY:Early Response Team (ERT) Training
DESCRIPTION:As The United Methodist Church\, we primarily serve those within of our local communities\, but when the unimaginable happens\, we serve however and wherever we can. \n\n\n\n\nParticipants of this Early Response Team (ERT) training will learn the basics of disaster response\, including how to stabilize and secure homes safely\, and how to work effectively with survivors and others on the response team. This standardized class is required for the basic ERT UMCOR identification badge. \nCertification requires attendance at an ERT class\, a background check and a safe sanctuaries certification. Certified individuals may make themselves available and can be called upon in local disaster settings as well the formal ERT setting. \nRegister Now at: https://umoi-reg.brtapp.com/EarlyResponseTeamtrainingOctober212017\nLunch and materials will be provided. \nFor more information on this class\, please contact: \n\nBecky Platt at ORIDUMVIM@gmail.com\nLarry Johnson at lj.big4sportsfan@gmail.com\n\nWe are sharing this Oregon-Idaho training opportunity because of its proximity to some PNW churches. For questions specific to our conference\, please contact PNW Disaster Response and ERT Coordinators: \n\nJim Truitt at umvimdrc@comcast.net\, or\nKathy Bryson at pnwumcert@gmail.com\n\nWhat is an ERT? \nEarly Response Teams (ERTs) fill a specific need in the early days after a disaster to clean out flood-damaged homes\, remove debris\, place tarps on homes\, and otherwise help to prevent further damage\, while providing a caring Christian presence. \nERTs are NOT a first-response group of emergency workers\, nor are they recovery\, rebuild\, or repair teams. \nERTs must be certified to work outside their home conference and this training is one of the certification requirements. \n\n\n\n\n  \n\n\n\n\n  \n
