DESCRIPTION:Now is the time to get ready and join the next mission. \nAn ERT Basic Training is set for Saturday\, September 26 in person at Des Moines United Methodist Church (22225 9th Ave. S\, Des Moines\, WA 98198) from 8:30 a.m. – 5 p.m. PT. The ERT Basic Training will prepare you on ways to clean out a flooded home\, haul debris\, sort ashes and work alongside survivors while staying safe. SUMMARY:Repent and Repair: A Call to Disability Justice 36 Years After the ADA
DESCRIPTION:Description: This collaborative event will bring together churches from across the Western Jurisdiction to mark the 36th anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). Gathering at in-person hubs and virtually\, clergy and lay participants will learn about accessibility\, anti-ableism\, and disability justice through practical workshops led by Disability Ministry leaders across the Jurisdiction. Engaging in worship\, fellowship over meals\, and an optional documentary screening will equip participants to return to their congregations with new knowledge for practical and prophetic change. We will lament the sin of ableism and commit to working to build God’s inclusive\, justice-filled Kin-dom on earth. \nClick here to register | Download Event Flyer \nThe goal of this conference is to gather UMC leaders and congregations across the Western Jurisdiction for 2.5 days of community learning about disability justice in the church. Churches and their leaders will have the opportunity to participate in the full event or to just join worship onSunday July 26th\, the 36th anniversary of the ADA. SUMMARY:Lay Servant Ministries Advanced Course "For The Common Good"
DESCRIPTION:A five-week class on discovering and using your spiritual gifts\, led by Rev. Dr. Desi Larson. This class is worth 1 CEU and counts toward either Lay Servant or Lay Speaker Certification. It is also a prerequisite for Certified Lay Minister Modules. \nThis course helps participants understand spiritual gifts and how the church can use them to fulfill its mission and ministry. Participants will also learn what it means to be a spiritual leader and\nwill be equipped to lead others in exploring and using their spiritual gifts. \nThe Rev. Dr. Desi Larson is a member of the Oregon-Idaho Conference and currently serves as Pastor of Trinity UMC in Sequim\, WA. Prior to moving to the western US in 2016\, Desi was a member of the New England Conference and served as a pastor at several churches in Maine. Desi holds a BA degree in English and Visual Arts from Waynesburg College in Pennsylvania and a Master of Divinity from Boston University in Massachusetts.
