SUMMARY:Candlelight Vigil
DESCRIPTION:Please join us for an ICE OUT FOR GOOD VIGIL on Sunday\, January 11 from 4-5 p.m. We join with other groups and churches around the country this weekend to name our outrage over the death of Renee Nicole Good and the shooting in Portland of Luis David Nico Moncada and Yorlenys Betzabeth Zambrano-Contreras by Immigration Enforcement officers. \nHosted by Edmonds United Methodist Church\, this will be a reflective service as we name the harms and injustices in our government and light candles in memory of those who’ve died in Detention Centers or shot by Immigration Enforcement officers. It will be followed by a short candlelight march on church grounds.

SUMMARY:What to Expect in the Appointment Process
DESCRIPTION:Whether your church is a clear opening that’s expecting a new pastor on July 1\, 2026\, or you’re just curious about the seemingly mysterious appointment process that the cabinet uses\, SPRC leaders from every church are invited to learn more about it. Columbia and Sage districts in the Oregon-Idaho Conference ran a pilot version of this webinar in January 2025. It was so helpful to participants that we are using it throughout Oregon-Idaho and the Pacific Northwest Conferences this coming January. \nWho: Members of the SPRC (Staff Parish Relations Committee or equivalent leaders at churches with a single board structure) are invited to this webinar. Churches that have clear openings (due to receive a new pastor on July 1\, 2026) are expected to have at least two SPRC members who participate in these sessions. If you believe your pastor’s appointment may change\, attending would be an excellent and proactive step. \nWhat: A 90-minute Zoom meeting with superintendents who will describe the appointment process\, including the roles of the superintendent\, SPRC chair\, SPRC members\, and the new pastor. \nWhen/Where: The same information is being offered at two different times; you can choose which fits your schedule.  *Zoom links will be emailed to Churches and SPRC chairs in January. \n\nTuesday\, Jan. 13\, 6:30 p.m. PT / 7:30 p.m. MT\nSaturday\, Jan. 24\, 9 a.m. PT / 10 a.m. MT\n\nWhy: Since most churches don’t regularly participate in the appointment process\, it’s normal to have many questions. Superintendents will be answering those questions—many of them before you even ask—during these Zoom sessions. Participants will receive all the information they need to work confidently with the superintendent during a time of uncertainty and anticipated transition.

SUMMARY:Climate Justice and the Right to Food
DESCRIPTION:The impact of climate change on poor rural households is already staggeringly high. What to do? One approach is to tackle the issue in terms of the “Right to Food.” Other approaches include innovative strategies the United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR) has developed in the context of disaster recovery and climate risk reduction. \nAll are invited to a Climate Justice related Lunch & Learn after worship on UMCOR Sunday\, March 15th\, hosted by the Climate Justice Working Group at Seattle First. Dan Gustafson\, a member who is the former Deputy Director-General of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations will present. \nA Zoom option is available for people and congregations that would like to attend but can’t make it in person due to the distance. Parking in Seattle First’s garage is also free for attending the event. \nThose who plan to attend are invited to register here ahead of time so that Seattle First knows how much food to prepare. If you register to attend via Zoom\, the link will be sent upon registration.

SUMMARY:POSTPONED - Women in Ministry Retreat 2026
DESCRIPTION:NOTICE – On behalf of the Women in Ministry Retreat Planning Team\, we wanted to share that due to scheduling challenges and low registration we have made the decision to postpone this year’s gathering to Spring of 2027. We hope to have more information about the 2027 gathering later in the fall this year.  \nJoin us for a time of rest\, renewal and connection as we set aside time to dwell in the Holy Week experience for ourselves. This is a time to step back from the business of the season and engage with the elements we would normally plan and lead. \nThis year\, the Women in Ministry retreat will be held this year at Lazy F Camp & Retreat Center on March 26-28\, 2026\, with the theme “A Holy Week for all of us.” All who identify as women in ministry are invited\, including candidates for ministry. \nIn addition to sessions\, participants will be invited to care for themselves throughout the retreat. The retreat agenda will include plenty of free time to explore the camp and surrounding area\, reconnect with each other\, and share resources. Cost covers meals and accommodations at $150 per person\, multi-occupancy. For more information\, click here to learn more and register.
