SUMMARY:An Evening with Lifelong Climate Activist Bill McKibben
DESCRIPTION:In-Person and Livestream | Free and open to the public \nThird Act Washington presents author\, educator and environmental activist Bill McKibben on July 2 at 7:00pm in a talk about what’s needed now to save our planet and democracy\, what’s bringing him joy and gives him hope\, and why he believes Third Act can have a huge impact on making our world a better place for all of us\, and for generations to come. \nBill is renowned for mobilizing popular support for action on climate justice and democracy.  He has authored 20 books\, including The End of Nature (1989) which is regarded as the first book for a general audience about climate change. He also helped found 350.org\, the first global grassroots climate campaign\, which has organized protests on every continent\, including Antarctica\, for climate action.  In 2022 he founded Third Act\, a national organization with over 70\,000 members that organizes people over the age of 60 for action on climate\, justice\, and democracy. \nBill will give a call to action to inspire and motivate attendees to take stepped-up action on climate and democracy\, especially in the face of intensified climate disruption\, political polarization and backlash\, and our democracy in peril. His talk will be followed by a Q & A. \nRegister Today!

Would you like to learn skills to enhance worship leadership in your small church? If so\, these worship workshops are for you! \nThe Pacific Northwest (PNW) Conference has invited Dr. Marcia McFee to lead three workshops over the next several months to empower laity to become more effective in worship planning and leading. Bitesize mindset and skillset lessons will be taught\, which can add flavor to your worship. Resources for each liturgical season will also be shared. \n\nAugust 16-18\, 2024 – Advent / Christmas / Epiphany – held in (and live-streamed from) Spokane Valley UMC\, Spokane Valley\, WA\nJanuary 10-12\, 2025 – Lent / Holy Week / Easter – held in (and live-streamed from) First UMC\, Olympia\, WA\nMay 2-4\, 2025 – Ordinary Time – held in (and live-streamed from) Wesley UMC\, Yakima\, WA\nAn orientation will be held on Wednesday\, July 31st at 9 a.m. PT\, a recording of which will also be available\n\nWhile these workshops are offered with laypersons in mind\, pastors of small churches are especially invited to attend with their laity. Pastors of larger churches are welcome but strongly encouraged to see this event as an opportunity to equip and train laity as partners in worship design. \nClick here to review the schedule for these workshops. \nParticipants from the Alaska\, Oregon-Idaho\, and PNW Conferences will have free access to all three workshops\, both in person and online. For more information and to register\, please use the following link based on the conference your local church is in. \n\nAlaska Conference Registration\nOregon-Idaho Conference Registration\nPacific Northwest Conference Registration\n\nFor those attending in person\, a nominal fee is required to cover the costs of meals and other host church expenses. A separate (simple) registration (for each event) is required so we can prepare for your needs. Registration for in-person hospitality at the August event is available here. Others will become available closer to the workshop dates. \nScholarships are available for Lay-Led Congregations and churches served by a CLM in the PNW Conference to cover this expense and support travel and housing during each workshop. SUMMARY:SeaTac Clergy Day Apart: A Day of Play
DESCRIPTION:Clergy of the SeaTac District are invited to a day away from your usual ministry setting in the form of a a play date with colleagues! Several of your peers have planned a day of renewal that differs from clergy gatherings you may be used to: \n\nThere will not be any formally offered education\, formation\, or learning\, only a brief grounding prayer and space. After that\, you are welcome to invite conversations on topics of your choosing\, and you are also welcome to put in earphones and be an introvert if that is what play looks like for you.\nWe will not be meeting in a church. This is to help us all fully participate and receive in a less work-related environment\, where we will likely avoid going into a professional autopilot. It’s a space for open-mindedness and relaxation.\nThis play is designed to be opt-in/opt-out friendly. Following your renewal needs\, you can participate or not.\n\nYour $10 registration will include communal lunch in a food court with a variety of options and a free-style painting project. Click here to register.

SUMMARY:Q&A Opportunity to prepare for the Special Session
DESCRIPTION:On Monday\, December 2\, from 6:30-8 p.m. PT\, lay and clergy members of the Alaska\, Oregon-Idaho and Pacific Northwest Conferences are invited to bring questions they may have after reviewing the materials for the Special Session on December 5\, 2024. Other interested United Methodists from the Greater Northwest Area are also welcome to attend. \nPlease register for this meeting (CLICK HERE) to receive a link to join this question-and-answer session. Members of the Pacific Northwest Conference can find the legislation for consideration\, along with support materials\, on the Special Session Resource Page. \nFor members of the PNW Conference\, this will serve as our Focus Session\, allowing voting members to receive the budget well in advance of voting on it so we can honor conference rules. \nDuring the meeting\, panelists will be present to help answer questions about the Ministry Priorities proposal and each conference budget. To make the best use of our time\, please review the materials your conference is providing before you formulate and ask questions. We will be utilizing Zoom’s Q&A feature to answer as many questions as possible.
