Email David\n\nAbout the Presenter\nDr. Joerg Rieger is Distinguished Professor of Theology and the Cal Turner Chancellor’s Chair in Wesleyan Studies at Vanderbilt Divinity School\, and founding director of the Wendland-Cook Program in Religion and Justice at Vanderbilt University. Born and educated in Germany before completing his doctoral work in the United States\, he holds an M.Div. from the Theologische Hochschule Reutlingen\, a Th.M. from Duke Divinity School\, and a Ph.D. in religion and ethics from Duke University. An ordained elder in the United Methodist Church\, he spent over two decades on the faculty of Perkins School of Theology at Southern Methodist University before joining Vanderbilt. Rieger is the author or editor of 27 books and more than 200 academic articles on theology\, economics\, and the misuse of power in religion and public life\, including Jesus vs. Caesar: For People Tired of Serving the Wrong God (2018) and Theology in the Capitalocene: Ecology\, Identity\, Class\, and Solidarity (2022). SUMMARY:Lay Servant Ministries: Living Our United Methodist Beliefs (United Methodist Heritage)
DESCRIPTION:Lay Servants who have completed the Basic Course are invited to participate in this five-week class on living our United Methodist beliefs\, led by Nancy Goddard\, CLM\, from October 19 – November 16\, 2026. The class will be held on Zoom on Mondays from 6:00-8:00 PM. This class is worth 1 CEU and counts toward either Lay Servant or Lay Speaker Certification. It is also a prerequisite for Certified Lay Minister Modules. \nThis course will explore the special gifts of theology\, witness\, and organization that The UMC brings to the church universal\, how we got where we are today\, and how our distinctive emphases are still needed in the 21st-century church. SUMMARY:2027 Gathering of the Orders and Fellowships
DESCRIPTION:Mark your calendars for the biennial Gathering of the Orders and Fellowships\, October 7-9\, 2027\, at Wesley United Methodist Church in Yakima. This is a time of worship\, reflection\, learning\, and connection for clergy and those serving in certified or ordered lay ministry across the PNW Conference. \nPlease note a change from our usual scheduling: this Gathering will run Thursday through Saturday\, rather than our typical timeframe. This shift is intended to make attendance more accessible for those who are dually employed\, including Deacons\, Deaconesses/Home Missioners\, Licensed Local Pastors\, and Certified Lay Ministers. Announcing these dates more than a year in advance is also meant to give everyone ample time to plan\, including making any necessary Sunday accommodations. \nMore details\, including registration\, will follow.
