SUMMARY:Youth Praise Experience in Vancouver
DESCRIPTION:As summer heats up\, plans for a cool concert event are coming together at Vancouver First United Methodist Church in downtown Vancouver\, slated for Saturday\, August 17th. \nEncore Rocks: A Youth Praise Experience will feature The Band Phoenix\, and be an event full of food\, fun and fellowship for youth across the Methodist district and Vancouver area. We would like to extend an invitation to youth groups from our neighboring United Methodist churches to come join together in a cool space\, the Jason Lee Hall at Vancouver First United Methodist Church\, to enjoy a taco/nacho bar and meet and greet other youth from the area. We will gather at 4 p.m. \nThe Band Phoenix\, a local praise band\, will kick off a concert of rock praise music featuring sets of some of today’s hottest hits. Following the concert\, there will be a host of activities to take part in. If you or youth you know are interested in performing a song\, we will have time devoted to open mic as the evening’s mixer continues. \nThe event will be hosted by the youth of VanFUMC\, and a freewill donation of $5 will be accepted to offset costs\, or non-perishable food items will be collected for the local food banks. \nFor more information\, contact VanFUMC at 360.693.5881\, email program@vanfumc.org\, or stop by the church at 401 E. 33rd Street\, Vancouver\, Washington.

DESCRIPTION:Seven Rivers District is offering two Advanced Boundary Trainings this spring to fulfill the boundary requirement for clergy. This is the second of those trainings – the first training is on April 30. The advanced training is for clergy who have already participated in one or more boundary workshops in the past. The class involves discussion of case studies prepared by the participants. These should be prepared prior to the training\, based on a personal experience related to boundary issues. Please describe the incident\, your actions\, the outcome\, and what you learned and/or might have done differently. This study should be typed out and e-mailed to the presenter so that it can be forwarded to all participants prior to the training.  Please submit this to the presenter at least one week prior to the class.  \nCANCELLED APRIL 22\, 2019. \nA limited lunch selection will be provided: two types of homemade soup\, one made with meat\, the other vegetarian and gluten-free. If neither choice appeals to you\, please feel free to bring your own lunch.

Join retreat leaders Sue Magrath and Dr. Denise McGuinness to explore how to process your own anxiety and be a non-anxious presence for others. \nWe begin with dinner on Friday evening followed by a time of centering and an introduction to our topic. Saturday leads us deeper and includes a presentation and Q & A on the previous month’s General Conference 2019 by DS Mary Huycke\, the clergy delegate from our Annual Conference. The Greater Northwest Area’s INNOVATION AND VITALITY TEAM will be leading us throughout the day\, in worship\, plenary session\, conversations and workshops revolving around the three key practices that we believe are present in every vital congregation. These practices are namely\, INCLUSION\, INNOVATION and MULTIPLICATION. \nWe have picked the theme\, LOVE THY NEIGHBOR to celebrate what God is already doing in our faith communities in the ways we are loving and engaging our neighbors as well as to spark further our imagination towards what is still possible about God’s trans-formative work in our neighborhoods. To this end\, four workshops will be offered\, namely: Faith-based Community Organizing\, Asset Based Community Development\, Intercultural Competency\, and Intentional Multiplication. \nThe Early-bird registration is $20 per person until March 15 and $30 per person thereafter.
