trinity-choir2Early last spring, Trinity United Methodist Church’s choir was “discovered” on their YouTube page by a production company in New York. The producers contacted the church and invited the choir to come sing in the premier of a new Pepper Choplin Christmas Cantata at Lincoln Center this fall. Pepper Choplin is one of the choir’s most prolific composers, so the opportunity to work with him directly and sing at Lincoln Center couldn’t be missed!

You can view more photos from their performance on the choir’s Facebook page.

The Sunday before Thanksgiving, Trinity UMC commissioned the choir and then the more than 30 singers and their families headed for a weekend residency with Mr. Choplin in New York City. Trinity’s choir performed “Go, Sing It on the Mountain” on Monday, November 28 along with an orchestra and 250 singers from choirs from across the United States, including several other United Methodist choirs.

Trinity’s choir will perform a selection of the songs during their annual Christmas Cantata, The Festival of Light on Sunday, December 18th at 6:00pm at Trinity United Methodist Church in Seattle (website).

Editor’s Note: You can watch a performance by the The Choir at Trinity UMC from last December of “Thanks be to Thee” by G.F. Handel, composer below.
