Global Mission Fellows

Global Mission Fellows are young adults, ages 20–30, who are committed to work in social justice ministries for two years. They serve outside of their home communities, either in the United States or overseas. This graduate-level fellowship allows participants to address the root causes of oppression and alleviate human suffering alongside community organizations in a variety of issues including public health (including HIV/AIDS), migration/immigration, education, and poverty.

Creating opportunities for young adults is a priority of Global Ministries. Young adults play a critical role as agents of change in The United Methodist Church.

Fellows serving in the international track are assigned to a placement outside their home country and the cohort represents participants from all around the world. The international track offers the opportunity for fellows to serve in a new context, engage with current world issues and provides ongoing training in spiritual and professional development. 

Fellows who serve in the US-2 Track have witnessed the deep-rooted systems of injustice in their own country and desire to advocate for change.  Fellows form meaningful relationships with the community as they are mentored by organizations meeting immediate needs and working toward lasting transformation. 

Since 1951, the US-2 track has sent young adults to cross boundaries and form meaningful relationships to better understand the needs of the community.  

Sierra Service Project

The Sierra Service Project has been around since 1975 to provide service opportunities to youth and young adults. Those who choose to participate in the program spend their days doing service work, like repairing homes, and then their evening times in worship or recreational activities. The purpose of the Sierra Service Project is to build faith, strengthen community, and serve others. There are several different programs in a variety of locations that you can get involved in; from separate middle and high school programs, to combined ones, to young adult, there is certainly one that is right for you.
