Churches that become discipleship making centers have much of the following in common:
- Reaching the un-church...
- Praying and worshipping together often...
- Experiencing the grace and mercy of God...
- Surrendering their lives to the sovereignty of God and the lordship of Christ...
- Nurturing disciples, biblical literacy and faith into works...
- Poised towards missions: local and world wide...
- Imagination...
- Practical, organized and disciplined...
- Generous: "The Christian Church is the one organization in the world that exists purely for the benefit of non-members." William Temple

To be Christian is to take serious God's call of discipleship. It is a journey into a profound understanding of faith to discover God's presence and purpose. It is an opportunity to dig deep into the mystery of God's wisdom as revealed in the person of Jesus Christ.
The purpose of every local church is to help people become disciples of Jesus christ. The purpose of the Board of Discipleship of the Pacific Northwest Conference of the United Methodist Church is to help every local church become disciple making centers.
As wll as being Christian, we are United Methodist and that means we embrace a practical divinity. It is our Christian calling and commitment to "flesh out" the ideals, principals, and expectations of our faith. And as United Methodist take full advantage of the differences among us and allow those differences to enrich our common faith.
