Letters from David & Lorene Persons

Happy Birthday David!!
That is the way the way I felt this morning as I got up to celebrate number 61! I decided to climb Green Mountain as my gift to myself. On the way up I saw 10 deer and the sunrise was spectacular. As I walked, 1 Peter 1:2 kept cropping up in my mind. Three things stood out from this verse: 1) chosen by God the Father; 2) the sanctifying work of the Holy Spirit and 3) to be obedient to Jesus Christ. It was like I was involved in a visual parable of this verse.
1) I reflected on my past of how the Lord had called me during my first year of college to be a missionary. It took some 13 years of preparation before that call came to fruition. It has now been 30 years of missionary service. The Lord has been so good to me. The fact of where I was born and all the advantages I have; the missionary family I was born into; the wife and family He gave me. God has given me friends all over the world. Indeed, I am the most spoiled person on this planet.
2) As I followed the trail to my destination the sanctifying work of the Holy Spirit came to mind. God by his spirit wanted me to be like Jesus. The higher I went, Denver disappeared and I only saw the mountains. At first, it was the foothills with a sprinkling of snow on them. They were beautiful. But then I saw the Rockies covered with pristine snow. How spectacular and breath taking. That is what the Lord wanted me to be like. Created in His image. It is by His Spirit that this comes about.
3) Coming back down the mountain, obedience to Jesus was the focus. God didn’t want me to stay on the mountain but to come back and live where people were. As I looked at Denver below me, I saw the water reservoirs that fed the population. This water came from the run off from the snows in the mountain. As we are obedient to the Lord Jesus Christ, His life trickles through us to feed the world.
And how about tomorrow!!! Easter!!!! All this is possible because of His resurrection.
LET’S CELEBRATE!!!
