"Pray!" Curriculum
: Biblical and Theological Reflections
“Lord, teach us to pray” (Luke 11:1). With this simple request Jesus‛
disciples open their hearts and minds to one of God‛s most amazing and
mysterious gifts: prayer. Prayer encompasses the entire life of the
pray-er. The writer of I Thessalonians encourages God‛s people to “Rejoice
always, pray without ceasing, give thanks in all circumstances; for
this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you” (5:16-18). Pray without
ceasing! It is obvious that there is more to prayer than a few words
in the morning, at mealtime, or during worship. Prayer is conversation,
refl ection, and journey. There are many forms of prayer and many ways
to pray.
This year‛s theme will help campers and staff learn about prayer
through refl ection on fi ve biblical texts that show God‛s people in prayer.
There will also be opportunities to learn about prayer from one another,
by trying different prayer forms, through worship together, and in all
the other activities that occur during camp. Everyone will be encouraged
to see that living lives of prayer helps the pray-er to see God at work
in every aspect of his or her life and to discover how to live as God‛s
people in the world.
