Laity Transition Workshops
This spring a number of churches in our Annual Conference will be experiencing a change in pastoral leadership. The Office of Connectional Ministries will again be offering Laity Transition Workshops later this spring to support and resource PPRC/SPRC members and other elected lay leadership as they move through this process in the local church. The workshops (2 ½-3 hours in length) will help participants explore the normal feelings and reactions during the time of a pastoral change, become familiar with the natural stages of transition, and gain tools and resources for helping congregations say an appropriate goodbye and hello. Members of PPR/SPR Committees, along with other key leadership are encouraged to attend. Gail Grossman, consultant with churches and pastors in our Conference, leads the workshops.

The workshops will be held at several locations around the Annual Conference. Be watching the email News Digest (from the Conference office) for announcements about dates and locations in the coming weeks. The total cost to attend will be $25.00 per church, and each congregation can send as many key leaders as they wish for that one price.

Correct Dates of Cooperative School of Christian Mission
The dates of Cooperative School of Christian Mission posted in H.A.I.L. Vol. 2, Issue 4 should have been JULY 11-14, not June 11-14. You will still SAVE if you register before June 20.

Robes Needed
Robes needed-6 clergy from the PNW are headed to Nepal May 11th-24th and we would like to be able to present the Nepali pastors with robes. We are looking for choir or pastoral robes that we can take to give each of the 35 pastors something special. If you or your church can help with old choir robes or pastoral robes please get in touch with Rev. Darryn Hewson at (208)263-4232 or email pastord@umcsandpoint.org ASAP.

The rising cost of food
The rising cost of food is affecting everyone from food banks toartisan bakeries. Around the globe, people are seeing higher food prices, from the local marketplace outside of Cairo, Egypt to the neighborhood supermarket.

Starting in May, the federal government's $168 billion Economic Stimulus Act will kick-in with the first mailings of tax rebate checks to 130 million US households. Rather than putting the money in the bank for a rainy day or buying a flat-panel TV, we are encouraging people to keep the money moving by donating tax rebates to non- profit organizations they know and trust to serve the poor.

Just think what we could accomplish by inviting our congregations to consider giving all, or part, of their rebate checks to local food banks, their church's ministries, or to trusted programs which reach around the world! Lynn Magnuson, PNW AC Hunger Coordinator

URGENT APPEAL by PNW CONFERENCE CHURCH AND SOCIETY ACTION TEAM
The PNW Annual Conference adopted the petition "Support for the United Methodist Global AIDS Fund," Advance Special #982345, in 2006, committing to a goal of raising one dollar per member this quadrennium. General Conference in 2004 committed to establishing this fund and raising $8 million. To date, $1.3 million has been raised with $6,599 from PNW. A reminder: 25% of the funds raised in a Conference remain IN that Conference for AIDS-related programs/projects. Conference Treasurer Craig Parrish states that our PNW current level of receipts represent closer to 10¢/member than $1. Please lift this Advance to your local congregations.
